One of Gen. Santos City’s flagship festivals, the KALILANGAN FESTIVAL will be launched on February 16 with a Grand Ceremonial Opening Program at the Oval Plaza . A celebration in commemoration of the city’s 69th Foundation Anniversary, the theme of the 2008 Kalilangan (which means “merriment” or “revelry” in the Maguindanao dialect) is KALINAW, KALAMBUAN, KASADYA (Peace, Prosperity, Pomp). It runs until February 27 with a Kadsagayan Street Dancing Competition & a Best-of-Gensan Variety Show as fitting finale.

For sure, just like the previous years, all roads once again lead to the Tuna Capital of the Philippines with people from all over Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, Gen. Santos) descending upon the city to witness the cultural events and features laid out for the 12-day festival. According to Festival Director Orman Manansala, “there is definitely something for everyone.”

Check out the pictures taken from the website put up solely for the Kalilangan 2007 last year so that you will have an idea of what it is all about.
