Rotary Club of GenSan at 50!
Congratulations to the Rotary Club of General Santos City for their GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY tomorrow!!!!
Considered as the ‘mother club’ of all the other rotary groups in Soccsksargen, Rotary Club 17116 of Zone 3A under District 3860 was chartered to the Rotary International, on March 3, 1958 (Gosh! Was not even born yet.).
I am posting this to honor their president, Mr. Bing Royeca and his fabulous wife, Armi Magtoto-Royeca (owners of Rolee Bakeshop) who are bosom friends of mine and undeniably, one of the most good-looking couples in GenSan.
Bing, by the way, is a cousin of Milagros Royeca who was featured here in an earlier article and whose father, the former Mayor Jorge Royeca is Rotary GenSan’s first-ever president!!
Lately, they have been quite hard to reach these past weeks due to their hectic preparations for their BIG PARTY tomorrow night at the Family Country Hotel & Convention Centre incidentally owned by their fellow Rotarian (and my baptismal godfather) Rey Golingan.
Cheers to you Bing and to your club and may the commitment to share and to serve be always with you! Mabuhay kayo!!!!

Bariles is a Filipino word for “Tuna”, the primary source of income of the people of General Santos City which hosts 6 of the Philippines’ 8 tuna canneries and more than 80% of its tuna processing plants.
 load curtailment requirements. Power supply curtailment has been imposed by NGCP in Southern Mindanao since August 2009 due to power generation deficiency, ranging from 20 MW to as high as 40 MW, daily.
As per recent NGCP advice, water elevation at hydroelectric power plants reaches below critical level. Power crisis is expected to continue until rainy season arrives or until power generation deficiency is addressed.
SOCOTECOII management implores for public’s understanding since this power crisis is beyond its control and is experienced by Mindanao and the Philippines, as a whole. The management also finds difficulty in coming up with load shedding schedule due to the erratic curtailment demands required by NGCP from SOCOTECOII, which varies at hourly basis.
Energy conservation activities are requested from all electricity users, especially during 5PM to 9PM, through the following:
1. No ironing of clothes on above-mentioned time;
2. Limited use of air-conditioner and other electrical appliances;
3. Unplugging of refrigerators/freezers from 6PM to 8PM;
4. Use one television set only for the whole family;
5. Sensible use of lighting facilities at home
