GenSan’s Goldenstate College’s own building rises soon at Acharon Blvd!

One of the more successful schools in Gen. Santos City, the Goldenstate College has truly grown tremendously in the last three years. From its former student population of 2,500 in 2005 it has more than doubled to 6,300 students in 2007.

Credit goes to the husband and wife team of owners Warren and Sarah Manilay who, after the former leaving his job at the local government, strengthened their curriculum (to include health care courses), upgraded their facilities, and hired only the most competent instructors they could find. They also linked up with establishments in Singapore to give their Hotel and Restaurant Management students venues for training before they finally graduate. (My niece, the family cook Claudine will hopefully be one of them.)

Lately, their students have been winning competitions locally and elsewhere, a testament to their commitment to produce globally competitive and highly-skilled graduates.

I was not surprised then to see this billboard (above) along the Pedro Acharon, Sr. Boulevard (beside the gasoline station of the Royecas) announcing the construction of their own building. All along I knew that it was bound to happen considering their recent successes.

With this development, the students, faculty and staff of the Goldenstate College will now truly be proud to have a place they can finally call their “own home”.

And yes, since it’s along the beach line of Sarangani Bay… expect that area’s commercial life to perk up again soon!

(For a bigger view of the billboard above, click on the link below.)

How can i get in touch with Mr. Manilay or anybody in authority at Golden State? I am the Recruiting Officer of a huge company here in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, although I come from GenSan. We are expanding our restaurant line (one of many, many businesses owned by the Al Nowaiser family) and we are looking to hire Filipino restaurant personnel. Hopefully I can get in touch with Mr. and Mrs. Manilay and we can check out Golden State products.

Hello, thank you so much for your quick response to my question about whether Goldentstate College exsists. I now have peace of mind about my friend and her honesty, I just hope my sceptisism and doubt hasn’t damaged our relationship too badly.
Thanks again, and hopefully I will be able to see your beautiful city in person soon.
    Sincerely,
    Mike

Bariles is a Filipino word for “Tuna”, the primary source of income of the people of General Santos City which hosts 6 of the Philippines’ 8 tuna canneries and more than 80% of its tuna processing plants.

The city boasts of the only “Tuna Festival” in the world celebrated every September 5 in commemoration of its charterhood anniversary.

Bariles is also the alias of this blog\'s author who would like nothing than to write about his beloved city by the bay and share it with his kababayans from all over.

He has worked throughout Southeast Asia and Papua New Guinea. Currently, he devotes his time, beauty, and talent in the fields of Communications, Marketing and Media.

He is also the unofficial leader of the Soccsksargen Bloggers, a motley group of online writers who share a common goal to write what\'s true, good, progressive and beautiful about South Central Mindanao and her people.
