It’s really gonna be a looooong weekend for the people of Gen. Santos City as a combination of Catholic and Islam holidays all fall under the same week!

In a letter dated March 12, 2008 to the Office of the City Mayor of GenSan from the Office of Muslim Affairs, Field Director Guialil R. Kanda informed the mayor that the Maulidin nabi - Birthday of Prophet Mohammad is a legal Muslim Holiday pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 1083 and Resolution No. 81-1277 of the Civil Service Commission, and that the day falls on March 19, 2008, which is Holy Wednesday for Christians.

This means moving up the Holy Week holidays (in GenSan and the rest of Region XII) up by one day giving everyone five days to observe not only the Lenten Season but also the birth of the Muslim prophet.

Now isn’t that something to really reflect on?
