Congresswoman Custodio sponsors FREE LIVE “pay-per-view” Airing of Diaz-Pacquiao Fight in GenSan
I am featuring this poster designed by my good friend Jun Pilapil for the coming FREE LIVE TELECAST of the Diaz-Pacquiao World Lightweight Championship Fight (Lethal Combination)on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the Lagao Gym here in Gen. Santos City.

This is an initiative of the Representative of the 1st Congressional District of South Cotabato, Honorable Darlene Antonino-Custodio in coordination with the City Mayor’s Office of GenSan to enable the “generals” to watch and cheer for their hometown champion on real time sans commercials on Pay-Per-View, a tradition which started way back in 2006.
Paying for this privilege is the kind congresswoman who will shell out P330,000 to Solar Sports, an amount which as far as I can recall is the largest fee asked by the sports channel from the city since the LGU started this more than two years ago. In every fight, Solar kept on upping the ante for the rights to the live telecast. Gosh!
As early as two months ago, the City Mayor wrote Pacman’s brother and now Barangay Apopong Captain Roel Pacquiao in the latter’s capacity as President of Manny Pacquiao Promotions to sponsor this live airing at the gym. Roel in his response wrote back that they cannot acquiesce to the mayor’s request because they already turned over all the rights to Solar Sports and that they have no funds to finance it.
That gave the congresswoman the signal to pursue sponsoring the “live airing” herself. As am writing this though, I have heard reports that “Lethal Combination” will also be shown “LIVE” at the Barangay Apopong Covered Court on Sunday sponsored by you-know-who.
Oh well, the more, the merrier….
Anyway, the Congressional Office through the City Mayor’s Office has already distributed 7,000 tickets among the city’s 26 barangays thru the Barangay Captains.
As with the past fights of Pacman, the Lagao Gym which has been the site of past PBA Games will open its gates as early as 8:00 AM. No food and drinks, bladed weapons, and the like will be allowed inside the airconditioned venue and everybody will be frisked at the doors.
Hope to see you all there! I will be at the main door.

Wow! I just watched the Pacman vs. Diaz fight live here in Kuala Lumpur. When our national anthem was sang…oh my, i had goose bumps! I felt so proud of being a Filipino!
Kuya Avel, thanks for the text messages, it kept me alert or else i’d still be sleeping like a log! Hehehe! You know naman… lazy Sundays di bah!
Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao for winning the WBC lightweight title!
It’s such a great honor and pride for our beloved country Philippines and
the hero of our city General Santos!
What a fantastic fight! It was a knock-out! I’ve never seen my hubby Kenneth
glued to the TV.
Though’ i’m not an avid fan when it comes to boxing… coz i can’t take all the
punchings, hittings and bleedings etc… when it’s comes to ‘Pacman’ fights
i won’t miss it.
Mabuhay ang Filipino! Mabuhay tayong lahat!
Cheers!!!!
Kim
Hi Lionheart!
Shocking ba? Well that’s Philippines politics for you.
Thanks again for commenting my friend.
hi Kimberly!
I also felt the same way inside the Lagao gym when all 7,000 of us watching the live telecast stood up while our National Anthem was being sung.
For the nth time, Manny Pacquiao again united us all, one country, one people.
Amen.
Regards to Kenneth, Christian and all our friends there in Kuala Lumpur. Hope to see you again next year.
mabuhay and congratulation to our hometown hero MANNY PACQUIAO for winning his 4th championship belt and the only FILIPINO in fact ASAIN to have won such feat(4 titles in 4 differnt weigth classes) we heard it here in the U.K. that his next bout will be against RICKY HATTON who is based here in England sometime in November 2008. kuya avel do you have any updates on where the fight will be held?? once again congrats and MABUHAY !!!
Hi George!
Did you watch it there in London? No updates re the Hatton-Pacquiao match, whether it will push thru or not. Once he comes back, will ask him during the Presscon which usually comes after the motorcade from the Gensan airport.
