Pacquiao gunning for Congress again!
Yesterday, July 15, 2008, New WBC World Lightweight Champion Manny Pacquiao announced his intention to return to the political ring again.
This came after witnessing the State of the Municipality Address of his good friend, Mayor Bong Constantino of Malungon, Sarangani Province, where he is the chairman of the Tourism Council.
FRIENDS NOW & SOON-TO-BE-MANNY SUPPORTERS? Manny Pacquiao waving to his townmates from his float during the motorcade after his arrival at the GenSan International Airport last week. Beside him is Congresswoman Darlene Antonino-Custodio and Gensan Mayor Jun Acharon.
According to a report by Isagani Palma, the Champ will once again run for Congres…. but not in the 1st District of South Cotabato where he lost to incumbent Darlene Antonino-Custodio in the 2006 elections but in the lone District of Sarangani this time, a post which will be vacated soon by Congressman Erwin Chiongbian who’s in his last term.
That would be good news for some Sarangans if this plan of his materializes and if he wins his second foray into the political arena. One thing he made clear though is, he will run only as soon as he retires from boxing.
And with Manny now out of their political radar, will the Acharon’s and Antonino’s now support Manny in his political dream?
Oh well….we could only wait in the ringsides with bated breath.
Abangan ang susunod na kabanata…

Go, Manny, Go!
THings like this seem unpredictable just like where the punches are coming from
let’s just see what’s in store and I believe in Manny’s good intentions.

i will support manny pag nagkataon…maglipat na ako sa alabel…hehehe
are you kidding me? not again…
well… on the lighter side, he could take part in sports development or something…
Though not politically inclined, his money will go a long way to help his kababayans!
@ Mr. Bariles for Mayor!! Go GO GO lets support ICT
manny’s heart is in the right place. all he needs are sincere supporters who will not milk him to kingdom come!
is congress the right position for him in politics? why does he change district again? your guess is as good as mine. if i can act as his adviser (which i would not), i would recommend to him the following:
1. don’t run for congress (district representative) - he can’t do anything in there but lobby for the release of his pork barrel and distribute to his constituents. Too much enacted laws aleady (many would disagree but i too will feel the same on their contention)except for one - making general santos city a lone congressional district. long overdue alreay but how come we still share the said district with 3 municipalities of south cot. again your guess is as good as others.
2. Run for local position instead (governor or mayor) - running for a chief executive position for a local government unit will certainly answer his clamor on helping the poor directly and more than enough than the “minimal” he said his doing as a private citizen
3. If he decide for an LGU position, city mayor of gensan is a logical choice. why other lgu when you are introduced around the world as a boxer from gensan not mentioning that you really reside in the city. losing a congressional seat against congresswoman custodio last election should not be an issue for him in finding another area to run for.
4.
5.
6…………
i’ve got a lot more. but the first three will be enough as of this time.
well any reaction??????????
i would suggest Manny will start his media attention not as a lone and famous boxer but as a public and potential serviceman. Nowadays, the economic and ecological aspects needs to be addressed. Best hope he will ignite places in Sarangani by empowering tourism as a good introduction to foreign countries.
He has the chance and the will to govern!
I would see Glan, Sarangani is a good place to start for development since it accounts as the first pioneered town in the area.
I love that place!! peace loving!they know each other well!a one family town.
if he really want to help his ‘kababayans’ there are lots of things that he can possibly do…
a word of caution for manny, though….
baka gagamitin ka lang ng ibang politicians diyan….

pacquiao for congress, AGAIN??
hindi naman sa wala akong bilib sa kakayahan ni manny, pero para sa akin, ay di dapat na tatakbo muli ang superlightweight champ sa pagka congressman dahil sa napansain ko nung nakaraang election ay nilampaso sya ng mga antonino ng gensan. tapos ngayon tatapatan nya ang political tycoon ng sarangani, “ang mga chongbians”. well, this is only my observation, kung nung nakaraan election na kung saan naglaban ang pambansang kamao (Pacquiao) at ang political tycoon of gensan (antonino), eh wala pong nagawa yung kasikatan nya laban kay miss darlene Antonino, how much more na haharapin nya si cong.woman chongbian sa 2010 elections!
I AM sorry manny, wala po akong hinanakit sayo, ang akin lang po ay sana hwag na po kayo tatakbo ngayong 2010 election. kasi po napakarumi po ng politika ngayon…yun lang po!!!at baka masira pa ang magandang reputasyon mo pag pumasok ka sa politika!! i am your diehard fan, wyvernx0103 of gensan!!
