Makati Mayor Binay lauds Generals on City Ranking

Posted by bariles On August - 1 - 2008 - Visited 1346 times, 1 so far today

In a mailed letter addressed to GenSan City Mayor Jun Acharon, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay congratulated him and the generals for the Tuna Capital’s inclusion as one of the Top Medium-Sized Cities in the Philippines, according to the Competitiveness Cities Ranking Project 2007 of the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center.

GenSan, together with six other mid-sized cities were accorded the honors in a simple award ceremony at the Grand Ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati on July 4, 2008.  Makati, likewise, was one of the topnotchers at the metrolitan cities category.

Here is the letter of Mayor Binay to Mayor Acharon:

And here are the photos of Mayor Jun Acharon taken during the awarding and of the trophy which he received.  (Thanks to Christine Omar of Ateneo de Davao for emailing to me the first picture below.)

It is the 3rd award for the city in the same category having earned it earlier in 2000 and 2002. This recognition coincides with Mayor Acharon’s proclaiming the year 2008 as “YEAR OF EXCELLENCE” in the Tuna Capital.

Hi glen! The mayor is indeed doing a good job but he can only do it if his people also exert all efforts to excel in their fields. Just like what you did glen, when the Central Public Market won as one of the country’s FIVE “MODEL PUBLIC MARKETS” (HUWARANG PALENGKE) in the country in 2006!

You also made us proud! :)

Mayor Binay will make a good senator if he runs and wins. But I guess, he is not presidential material. Unless he does something out of the ordinary and prove himself worthy to lead the country. But as its, he has endeared himself to the “generals” for his touching gesture of congratulating us. Saludo ako sa kanya!”

very hot topic re: sodomy case again?!… always front page on the newspapers. In fact, his wife Azizah recently resigned from her parliamentary seat of Permatang Pauh as MP to give way for Anwar
to contest and to pave the way for by-election. Pag napasok si
Anwar sa Parliament… masaya to’! Malakas na ang opposition dito…
i won’t be surprised if one day… si Anwar na ang PM ng Malaysia!
    Let’s wait and see…

Hi Ton! Regarding the metropolitan city ranking, it is a classification based on the population. We can only be considered as a metro city if our population is more than one million already.

We are still a medium-sized city since we only have half-a-million residents. And as a medium-sized city, we are ranked among the TOP in the Philippines according to the ASIAN INSTITUTE OF MGMT, thanks in part to the city government headed by Mayor Acharon and the private sector who have joined hands to make our city more livable and more competitive.

I would advise that you go out more to see for yourself Ton.
    :)
Just the same, thanks for your comments and let’s just hope for the best. Balik-balik ha? :)
