RD Group brings home Best Tuna Float plum

Posted by bariles On September - 5 - 2008 - Visited 1127 times, 2 so far today

Right after the breakfast at the City Mayor’s Office courtesy of Mayor Jun Acharon himself, attendees of the earlier mass rushed off to the Oval Plaza Grandstand to witness the Tuna Float Parade.  The highlight of every Tuna Festival in GenSan, this year’s competition was participated in by 14 float entries.

I had my own bet on who would win because I felt that it was the most difficult float to mount and the most unique… but hey, am not a judge.  Anyway, I will reveal my choice later.  :)

So here they are, my friends… the winners of the 10th Tuna Festival TUNA FLOAT Competition, in ascending order.  (You may click on each image for a larger view.)

East Asia Royale Hotel Float

5th Prize Winner: East Asia Royale Hotel Float  (P25,000 Cash)

San Andres Fishing Industries, Inc. Float

4th Place Winner: San Andres Fishing Industries, Inc. Float (P50,000 Cash)

Tuna Canners Association of Gen. Santos Float

3rd Prize Winner: Tuna Canners Association of GenSan Float (TCAGS) – (P75,000 Cash)

Barangay Bawing Float

2nd Place Winner: Coastal Barangay Bawing Float (100,000 Cash)

RD Group of Companies Float

GRAND PRIZE WINNER:  RD Corporation with P150,000 Cash Prize

I like the winning float from RD Group of companies since it best illustrated the theme: A Decade of Fishtivities and OpporTUNAties with its cardboard mock-ups of the City Hall building and other infrastructure of the city.

However, I feel that the 3rd prize winner (from the Tuna Canners Association) with its “under-the-sea wonderland showcase” complete with mermaids and mermen, should have won not only because of its being different from all the rest but because of how complicated it was to make.   But since it digressed from the Tuna Festival theme, it had to lose some precious, precious points from the judges.

Happy Tuna Festival again everyone!

    I would say,

Congrats to all the Organizers, People of gensan for a very successfull 10th TUNA Festival Celebration.

I have noticed that our TUNA Festival every year doesn’t run out of surprises and it maintained it excellence specially trait in TUNA float competition. The Generals support is overwhelming despite the security threat and the raining shower last night.

The people really go out and celebrate and its a good indication of the people’s maturity and confidence to the law authorities.

We’re proud and Mabuhay tayong lahat!

What gives? Methinks the third prize winner ought to have been judged the Grand Prize winner. Not only was their float more visually appealing, it obviously would have been been more difficult to make as our grand dame Avel just said. Doesn’t go with the theme? Ow..cmon…..how many more variations can you get from a Giant Fish and a Boat, Giant Fish and a boat combination? Maybe next time, the organizers should make it a bit more freewheeling so it’ll get the people’s creative juices flowing and get more varied entries….Iyon lang and baboosh!

its a very nice float of the TCAGS ( 3RD PLACER) although they are late for the parade but it was very obviuous that the 3rd placer is deserve to be the grand prize winner…

as one of the mermen of that float i was really appriciate our float, bcz to the people who doesnt know wht made our flaot is.. well, it was made of FISH BONE.. from the parapernalias, until the edge .. it was made of bone of the fish…

but i respect the decisions of the judges.. all of us are winners….

jhoemar poh.. proud to be one of the contenders of the tuna float parade…

    ’till next year…

agree… kahit ung sa SAFII nga mas maganda pa kaysa sa RD.. no offense… but i guess TCAGS deserves the grand prize.. maganda naman ung sa RD.. pero i think mas astig tlga ung TCAGS. package na kasi eh.. perfect sa theme..
