Bariles Republic votes for Batang Yagit at the Philippine Blog Awards

Posted by bariles On September - 18 - 2008 - Visited 940 times, 4 so far today

For this post, not only am I re-introducing the person who redesigned this blog for me but also casting my vote for his blog in the “Bloggers Choice” category of the Philippine Blog Awards for 2008.

The guy is Winston Almendras.

The blog is Batang Yagit.

It’s very easy to come up with reasons why I chose Winston’s blog.

First, aesthetics wise, it looks good. It has less clutter than most blogs I’ve come up with and is not an eye-sore.  It doesn’t cry out for attention and yet in a sublime manner, demands to be read.

2nd, the blog itself is a multi-faceted undertaking of the author, dealing with a variety of topics from the latest techie gadgets to the newest blockbuster movie;  from his musings on that last jeepney ride to his latest resto finds – which interestingly enough, are good reads even to the most jaded viewer.

3rd, it is owned by a fellow Mindanao blogger who belongs to a Davao-based group, The Usual Suspects, who undeniably has done a lot to promote blogging not only in these parts of the country but throughout the whole archipelago by virtue of their spearheading of the two largest blogger eyeballs ever, the Mindanao Bloggers Summit and the Wordcamp 2008.

Thus, if Winston’s blog makes it as Blogger’s Choice Awardee for the Philippine Blog Awards 2008, he is not winning only for himself, not only for the TUS,  but for ALL OF US us Mindanao Bloggers.

Simply put, a vote for Winston’s Batang Yagit is a vote for Mindanao bloggers. :)

Mabuhay ang Batang Yagit!

Bariles is a Filipino word for “Tuna”, the primary source of income of the people of General Santos City which hosts 6 of the Philippines’ 8 tuna canneries and more than 80% of its tuna processing plants.
The city boasts of the only “Tuna Festival” in the world celebrated every September 5 in commemoration of its charterhood anniversary.
Bariles is also the alias of this blog\'s author who would like nothing than to write about his beloved city by the bay and share it with his kababayans from all over.
He has worked throughout Southeast Asia and Papua New Guinea. Currently, he devotes his time, beauty, and talent in the fields of Communications, Marketing and Media. He is also the unofficial leader of the \"Soccsksargen Bloggers\", a motley group of online journalists who share a common goal to share what\'s true, good, progressive and beautiful about their region and her people.
