Sitti, Queen of Bossa Nova to enthrall GenSan
One artist who is on my wishlist of must-see performances is Ms. Sitti Navaro, known simply as Sitti.
Regarded as the Philippines’ Queen of Bossa Nova, Sitti is instrumental in reviving the Filipino’s love for latino-inspired music, with her debut album, “Cafe Bossa”. A lot of other artists jumped into the bandwagon, reviving all sorts of songs, giving it the bossa nova twist, with some succeeding while the rest failing miserably.
Through it all, Sitti remains unperturbed and until now, with the release of her Christmas album recently entitled “Ngayong Pasko”, continues to enthrall us with her soothing, crystal clear voice. In fact, this morning, I saw her perform again the the Umagang Kay Ganda of ABS-CBN and I must say that, she was a refreshing breather from the usual bands that they frequently feature.
On November 7, 2008, Friday evening, Sitti will be performing at the Phela Grande Convention Center in a dinner show simply entitled, “Sitti, the Philippine Queen of Bossa Nova”, sponspored by the Mt. Matutum Lions Club.
According to Orange Cafe’s Ms. Cathy Teng, proceeds of the fund raiser will go to the construction of a two-room school building in one of the rural barangays of General Santos City.
I must say that this is one project in GenSan which we should support not only because it is for a good cause but because of the fact that Sitti, who is half-Maranao has roots here in Soccsksargen, specifically in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.
Her mother, who is from Tacurong, the former Lydia Baiddin married Atty. Augusto Navarro when they met in Manila. They eventually bore a daughter whom they named as Sitti Katrina Baiddin Navarro.
Sitti graduated with honors at the University of the Philippines in Diliman with a degree in Business Economics in 2005.
Her love for music and for performing however took much of her time and she therefore concentrated on providing entertaiment to her thousands of fans, including very soon, the ones here in Gen. Santos City.
Check out her music video, “Para Sa Akin” below.
Tickets to Sitti’s concert are priced at P1,000 each, inclusive of dinner. Gates open at 6:00pm. Interested parties may call or text 0917-5391611 for reservations.
