GenSan’s “Exquizyth Dancers” takes the Silver at World Supremacy Battlegrounds down under
Do you know that on the evening of that fateful Sunday in December 2008 when the whole country was raving over Manny Pacquiao’s victory over Oscar dela Hoya in Las Vegas, USA, another group of “generals” was also fighting brilliantly in their own battlegrounds in Sydney, Australia and later taking home the Silver?
The group - the EXQUIZYTH Dancers, General Santos City’s top hip-hop artists who were representing the Philippines at the 5th World Supremacy Battlegrounds (Hip-Hop Dance Competition) at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre in Sydney, Australia.
The Exquizyth Dancers during their courtesy call on Mayor Jun Acharon, a week after their victory in Sydney, Australia.
The Exquizyth Dancers, all 16 of them including manager Richie Mulders arrived at Sydney two days ahead of the date of the competition and were mobbed by fellow Pinoys and Fil-Australians everywhere they went. The Pinoy factor was crucial during the competiton since they provided the GenSan hip-hop performers with the morale support by way of their presence and collective cheers.
Making their trip to Sydney a reality were assistance from various groups such as GenSan Mayor Jun Acharon and the local government, Congresswoman Darlene Custodio, former Mayor Adelbert Antonino, Barangay San Isidro Captain Renato Salangsang and other generous generals.
Below is the video of performance of the Exquizyth Dancers.
In the end, however, Auckland, New Zealand’s SWEET & SOUR, captured the prestigious Open crown while Australia’s PSYKE! placed third overall to gain the bronze. Not bad though since 32 groups competed for the championships.
Below are the actual results of the competition.

I have heard from Mr. Bebot Haw that there were rumors that a lot of those who witnessed the event thought that the judges had been biased in favor of the New Zealanders. The spectators really thought the Exquizyth desrved the top prize.
Kudos to our fellow southerners! Some of them are from Alabel. One of them was a classmate in grade school. I salute them and all those who are supporting them.

CyNurse Says:
Exquizyth performed a more difficult dance routine owing to the rather abundant number of flips and handsprings executed. However,I think Sweet and Sour’s number had a more urban and energetic feel to it. The footwork was excellent and their movements were more synchronized (maybe because they had fewer dancers compared to Exquizyth).
Still, I am so proud of Exquizyth. Lahi rajud ang GenSan basta sayaw na dah!!!
Btw, did any of the TV networks feature Exquizyth in one of their programs already? Just recently?

Ang galing, judging from the way the two groups performed, without bias being a Filipino, and a ka-general at that, mas magaling and mahirap nga ang dance routine ng Exquizyth, and they performed well ha, mas mabilis ang steps… mas okey talaga!

Hurraaahhhh…to the excellent performers of GenSan!!! Bravissimi.. Our boys executed a rather much difficult act and movements. Kodus to the choreographers!!
But, I’d still accept the choice of the judges, Mr Bariles..
hehehehe…they (judges) were rather hooked to the precision and synchronized execution of the movements (however much simpler and ordinary) by the New Zealanders, compared to our hip-hoppers.
Anyhow, talaga maraming talents ang mga Filipinos na pwede’ng ipagmamalaki sa buong mundo!!!

I’ve watched the two performances and from all angles, I truly believed that GenSan’s Exquizyth should have taken the Champion’s trophy. Their routine was more electrifying and to think that they managed their synchronization well considering their number compared to the sour winners, well, kanya-kanyang taste yung mga judges siguro. BTW, that one-hand stand by the sour winners might have given them half a point advantage over the ‘generals’, say nyo?
