I am enamored of the fast developments that the city is undertaking and boy am i so proud of the people who runs the government, from Mayor Pedro Acharon and now Congressman, and to our newly elected Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio then formerly congresswoman both being so close to the family for all the credits for coming up with all these projects…the incredible business establishments that the people in the gensan would only think of “kasi iisipin namin noon na pangManila nlang yan and tayo being the people in the province would only hope for, or pagmay pera will endure the travel to Davao just so to feel how it is to be inside one of those stores or food chains.

Now abot kamay na natin…let us be very optimistic with all the programs and the projects that our Congressman and Mayor will give us and not be “CRAB MENTALITY.”

Let us all HOPE for the BETTER, BEST and as it used to be THE BOOMING CITY in the SOUTH!!!

My love for the people and the city of gensan holds true…and will.

Gensan’s Enrico “Myx” Famin is 2009 Barista Cup champion

WITH a legion of coffee enthusiasts, barista wannabes, students and people in business as witnesses, Enrico “Myx” Famin of Ranchero’s Paseo del Sol in General Santos City emerged victorious, earning the distinction of being the 2009 Grand Barista Cup Champion for Mindanao during the Food Processing and Packaging Technology Expo at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas convention hall last June 19, 2009.
Famin bested four other baristas from Davao City and Cagayan de Oro City, taking home the P3,000 cash prize and a specially-designed trophy apart from being the official Mindanao representative to the national finals on September 26, 2009 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
The Grand Barista Cup is one of its kind in the country the past three years it has been staged by the Allegro Beverage Corporation. This year, Allegro partnered with Kreios Corporation of Davao City, the latter being the exclusive distributor in Mindanao of Expobar and Nouva Simounelli espresso machines and coffee products and supplies such as the Danesi and Moak coffee beans and Da Vinci Gourmet Syrups.
The competition aims to recognize and exalt the barista profession and at the same time provide the coffee drinking community the fundamentals of coffee both as a science and an art.
Among the other winners were Glendy Sanico of Southbrews Davao (1st runner-up), Dina Carbajosa, a free lance barista in Davao (2nd runner-up), Vincent Macalam of Taza Coffee Cagayan de Oro (3rd runner-up) and Wilson John Benolirao of Kangaroo Coffee Company in Davao (4th runner-up).
The contestants were asked to prepare two concoctions – cappuccino and their signature blends – in ten minutes. The crowd felt the intensity of the competition as each barista struggled to beat the time limit while maintaining composure in coming up with the best blends in the most creative fashion which would merit the judges’ approval.
Leo de Leon, the coffee expert of Allegro, said that “Myx” won the vote of the judges because of the creativity he infused in his signature blend. He added that, “these days, we ‘eat’ with our eyes. So what mattered in the contest apart from the taste was the visual impact of the beverages prepared by the contestants.”
Myx raved the crowd with his hot pink and brown concoction called Dragon Fritccino Truffle — a perfect combination of dragon fruit, choco chips, espresso shot, milk and topped with whipped cream and a luscious red cherry. This blend earned him an all-expense paid participation in the National Grand Barista Cup in Metro Manila and perhaps, in the Asian Barista Cup in Singapore in April 2010.
The entries were carefully evaluated by Joji Felicitas Pantoja, chief operating officer Coffee for Peace; Jessie de Leon, F&B director of Grand Regal Hotel, and Leo de Leon, chief executive officer of Allegro Beverage Corporation.
