Bariles is a Filipino word for “Tuna”, the primary source of income of the people of General Santos City which hosts 6 of the Philippines’ 8 tuna canneries and more than 80% of its tuna processing plants.
The city boasts of the only “Tuna Festival” in the world celebrated every September 5 in commemoration of its charterhood anniversary.
Bariles is also the alias of this blog\'s author who would like nothing than to write about his beloved city by the bay and share it with his kababayans from all over.
He has worked throughout Southeast Asia and Papua New Guinea. Currently, he devotes his time, beauty, and talent in the fields of Communications, Marketing and Media.
He is also the unofficial leader of the Soccsksargen Bloggers, a motley group of online writers who share a common goal to write what\'s true, good, progressive and beautiful about South Central Mindanao and her people.

@Daxi Weida – hehehehe! actually ang festival week is highlighted from feb 20-27… gabi-gabi ang programa sa oval stage at sa heritage park. maraming pagbabago sa oval… wala munang ukay-ukay at video karaoke. ang heritage park ay pangpamilya talaga… cultural presentations from 5-7 then acoustic live music from 7 onwards. security will be enhanced. we will set up cctv cameras as specific points of the oval… unta malingaw ang tanan…

@Sleepless In KL – nagsimula na ang mga pre-festival events last weekend… tuloy tuloy ito from the 14th to the 19th then GRAND CEREMONIAL OPENING on the 20th… and the culmination and anniversary program will be on feb 27th…

di pa ako naka attend ng Kalilangan ever… sayang ba. wala pa kase niyan nung bata pa ako. ha ha ha.
now is a good time sana to experience Kalilangan in Gensan, my lovely hometown… tamang tama kase 70th foundation ng city… pero 30 years na akong na uproot sa magsaysay avenue, mingaw baya
maybe next year…

@Kritiko – if you read the poster mababasa mo ang heading na “celebrating the 70th foundation anniversary of gen. santos city” siguro naman dahil mahilig kang mag-critique, alam mo kung saan related ang icon na “70″ sa poster.

@PenikS – hi there… this year ang streetdancing competition will happen from 9am-12noon sa pioneer avenue lang. this will be like a carousel with all the contingents dancing around the two lanes of pioneer avenue. then at 3pm they will all converge at the oval plaza for the focal presentation… hope to see you there!

@kfb – there are daily night activities at the oval plaza stage. now if you’re referring to street parties that are usually sponsored by east asia royale hotel, we have not heard from them about it…

thank you lord for the superb opening kahapon. thanks deped for putting up a great show! thank you sa 12 barangays who participated sa parade… namangha ako sa ginawang seremonyas after mayor jun bonged the agong… a fireball slid from the roof of the stage towards a bunch of firewood that lit into a huge bonfire… then a group of street dancers danced to the tune of the kalilangan music played by a live band! then the grand fireworks began… whew!
