“HBO hopes a multiplatform marketing and promotional campaign for a preview series leading up to its May 2 Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton pay-per-view boxing event will attract younger viewers to the sport.

HBO’s push for its four-part Pacquiao/Hatton 24/7 series will include a Web-based sweepstakes offering a behind-scenes fight experience at the venue, HBO senior vice president of sports operations Mark Taffet said.

HBO wants the series, trailing Pacquaio and Hatton as they train for their mega PPV fight, to help draw 18-to-49-year-old males to a sport whose male median viewing age skews over 35.

Pacquiao/Hatton 24/7 marks the fifth installment in the series, which debuted in 2006 ahead of an Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather bout. The first four installments have averaged 2.5 million viewers, according to HBO.

“The goal of 24/7 is not only to provide an all access look at the sport’s biggest events, but also to reach out to the next generation of boxing fans and to engage them with a compelling program which speaks their language,” Taffet said.”

In other words, don’t expect HBO’s 24/7 boxing specials to be just like the documentaries we see on news and public affairs programs, CNN, National Geographic and Discovery channels. 24/7 is, plain and simple, a marketing and promotional campaign for the May 2 Pacman-Hatton bout and NOT A DOCUMENTARY.

If it were a documentary, I’m sure Roach and Mayweather Sr. would be the first to protest being called “ring philosophers”!

The specials used the slant of two modern-day warriors from opposite sides of the globe. The specials were made to ENTERTAIN so let’s sit back and enjoy them.

its so digusting the way they featured general santos city. i go with some of our kababayans in saying that general santos city is not considered as one of the “poorest cities in the philippines..and a place that time since forgetten…”hello..
its a slap on our face talaga considering that the philippines cant be be at par with england (as the way they presented hatton huh!!..)sympre di hamak na mas mayaman talaga sila kaysa sa atin…but given the same time and oppurtunities.. well the philippines could have been england.. just remember we were only discovered 1561 and england was there long before the philippines existed…
this seems not fair and i think HBO sports should have come up with a publicity not to humiliate gensan but instead be proud that inspite our poverty so to say.. we were able to produce champions…
stand up and be heard generals!!!! and lets not allow oursevles to be
insulted!!!

Pacman is once a poorman, and made his fortune through boxing..That is fact that they want to present.in the documentary.. A poorman from poor community became a world champion..

But mentioning Gensan as one of the poorest city in the Philippines , I think is baseless…

Poverty is rampant throughout the city..but I think It does not make Gensan one of the poorest city in the Phils..

They should have gather facts and information,, before making such documentary..

Somebody should call the attention of HBO staff.. regarding this documentary…

I wonder how HBO gathered facts/info and tell the world that Gensan is one of the poorest cities in the country. I know they want to show the humble beginning of Pacman but overall when you just watch their documentaries, the impression that you get is that Gensan is really economically poor & a backward city. Opposite yata ng One of the most competitive mid-sized cities (2nd in the whole Phil. di ba Bariles?) yon ah, aside from it being the Tuna capital of the Philippines.

I like the the Gensan montage set to Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black” in Part I… Is Gensan really one of the “Philippines’ poorest cities”?

If Michael Moorer is chief assistant trainer, where does that put Buboy Fernandez now?

That training on defense emphasized by Mayweather, Sr. in Part III could be an important key going FOR Hatton.
