General Santos City has just gotten itself a new free-TV channel!

Known as TV 46 Socsargen, this new channel is owned by Asian Multimedia & Productions (AMP) chaired by former ABS-CBN President Freddie Garcia.

According to his son, Miguel, AMP’s National Managing Director, TV 46 (which is a UHF channel, just like Studio 23) will initially air purely ABS-CBN’s Tele-Radyo which is a live broadcast of its radio station DZMM‘s programs.

Miguel is in the Tuna Capital to formally launch the official airing of TV 46 this morning through a tree-planting activity at Barangay Lagao, as the new entrant ‘s Homage to Earth Day 2009.

The event which was attended by Vice-Mayor Flor Congson, Barangay Lagao Captain Minard Avila III and members of his council together with residents of the barangay, was meant to represent Asian Multimedia and Productions‘ desire to plant the seed as The Alternative News and Public Information Channel covering the SocSarGen Region.

Eventually, added Miguel, they will be airing  local news programs and features to cater to the people of South Cotabato, Sarangani and General Santos City.  He envisions TV 46 to be THE Socsargen Channel in the near future.   Right now, they are in talks with SKYCABLE so that their locally-produced programs would get a lower range channel.

Bariles also learned that TV 46 is their first foray into TV programming and that the company will eventually expand up north, targetting key cities with sizeable populations.

Their transmitter tower with a power of 1KW, by the way is located at the 4th floor of Perfect Image Building, Osmena South, downtown GenSan.  Their signal however reaches as far as Polomolok and the coastal municipalities of Sarangani Province.

TV 46‘s will start broadcasting daily from 6am to 10pm.

From us here at Bariles Republic’s GenSan News Online Mag, we can only wish AMB TV 46 all the best of luck!
