SM City GenSan set to open 2011 – SM Primeholdings

In a report from Business World Online today, July 6, 2009, SM Prime Holdings, Incorporated Vice President, Hans T. Sy officially declared that SM City GenSan (or ShoeMart GenSan) is scheduled to open in 2011.

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is the parent company of the SM Group’s shopping malls and is the largest shopping mall and retail operator in the Philippines.

According to Bariles’ sources, SM Prime has already closed the deal with the Salazar Family on their  5-hectare property along the corner of Santiago Boulevard and San Miguel Street.  Right now, if you happen to pass by the area, the old houses of the Salazars  at the back-end of the property are being demolished to give way for land clearing for Shoemart GenSan.

In the same Business World report by Marites Villamor, Mr. Sy further said that, “SM usually starts with small developments, or about 85,000 square meters, but with provisions to expand to 200,000 square meters.”

The report then added what the people of General Santos City wanted to find out all along these years:  SM recently acquired properties in Davao and General Santos cities in Mindanao. Both malls are scheduled to open in 2011.

Take note that Robinsons Place GenSan is opening in September 2009 this year.

With this development, the countdown for SM City-GenSan actually begins NOW.

Aside from Jollibee, SM is another indicator of investor confidence in Gensan (Socsksargen area). Two thumbs up for SM! and welcome to Gensan!

@melhumpz, chiiiiing ka rin! Hehehe! The oval plaza renovation comes after the work being done to the Gen. Santos Park across the City Hall building is over, which is by the end of this year. The buildings along Acharon, led by Golden State College’s new campus are all private sector projects. The Queen Tuna Park is scheduled to be improved even further. All these are being done gradually and hopefully, in 3 years time, especially in a physical sense, we will truly be Magandang GenSan!

YAH… Kelangan din talaga ibeautify ang oval at queen tuna park! hopefully after GSC Park… sa tingin ko, Malaki ang potential ng QUEEN TUNA PARK ala baywalk in Manila… Pati ang Acharon Blvd… HAlos Luma na mga buildings.. good thing may bago, yung Golden State College School Building…hehehehe!

At Road Expansion din kelangan ng Quirino, LAurel, Santiago at NAtional Highway… NAgiging traffic na ang city eh…

Tourism Industry ng GENSAN ay nasa infancy stage pa… there are lot of rooms for improvements… marami pa kulang sa gensan like golf courses, MUSEUMs, etc… pero hopefully soon, slowly but surely ma achieve din yan ng ating city! MAgandang Gensan to all!
