What Air Supply Song Are You? Blog Contest (updated 9/21)
Now that the dust has finally settled, GenSan News Online Mag is formally announcing its latest blog contest which was hinted at in Bariles‘ blog post on the Air Supply Concert in GenSan next month.
Bloggers everywhere, this is for you, the “What Air Supply Song Are You?” Blog Contest.
**The very talented Marthin Millado designed this poster for "What Air Supply Song Are You?"**
This bigger and better Blog Contest is brought to us once more with the help of our generous sponsors Dreamwork Ventures, the concert producer and Grab a Crab Restaurant.
The mechanics are very simple. Here goes…
- Write a blog post on the question – “What Air Supply Song Are You?“
- The contest is open to all Filipino bloggers, based in the Philippines or abroad.
- The blogs should be hosted in either Blogger, WordPress, Friendster, Multiply, Live Journal or self-hosted.
- Entries may be written in English, Tagalog or Taglish.
- The entries must include the following keywords and links:

- Announcement of winners will be made at 1:00pm on September 28, 2009 at the mezzanine of Coffee Club 101. All GenSan-based participants should be present during the awarding, while the rest may send representatives.

Other partners are Grab A Crab Restaurant, MISO Hardware, San Miguel Corporation, Coca Cola Bottlers Inc., East Asia Royale Hotel, Coffee Dream, Giacominos, NY Fries and Dips, Giacominos, Gaisano Mall of GenSan and Gregoria Printing Press.

Bariles is a Filipino word for “Tuna”, the primary source of income of the people of General Santos City which hosts 6 of the Philippines’ 8 tuna canneries and more than 80% of its tuna processing plants.
 load curtailment requirements. Power supply curtailment has been imposed by NGCP in Southern Mindanao since August 2009 due to power generation deficiency, ranging from 20 MW to as high as 40 MW, daily.
As per recent NGCP advice, water elevation at hydroelectric power plants reaches below critical level. Power crisis is expected to continue until rainy season arrives or until power generation deficiency is addressed.
SOCOTECOII management implores for public’s understanding since this power crisis is beyond its control and is experienced by Mindanao and the Philippines, as a whole. The management also finds difficulty in coming up with load shedding schedule due to the erratic curtailment demands required by NGCP from SOCOTECOII, which varies at hourly basis.
Energy conservation activities are requested from all electricity users, especially during 5PM to 9PM, through the following:
1. No ironing of clothes on above-mentioned time;
2. Limited use of air-conditioner and other electrical appliances;
3. Unplugging of refrigerators/freezers from 6PM to 8PM;
4. Use one television set only for the whole family;
5. Sensible use of lighting facilities at home

It’s nice to join the contest although I have tickets na courtesy of being part of the organizing committee for the security plan. Hence, I leave this contest to those who are deserving to watch in person the greatest singing duo of our generation.
I do have an unforgettable memory of my fave Air Supply Song. In college days, I joined a cultural contest – SInging with Accompaniment – at NDDC (now NDDU) representing the Arts and Sciences Department. My contest entry was the song of Air Supply entitled “I Want to Give it All” which I sang and played with my acoustic guitar. My rendition was quite interesting. I knew it coz students and people at the lobby (where the contest was held) were so awed and quiet while listening to me belting the song.
My focus was not on the contest. I really wanted to show to my crush that I have this talent which could be my potent credential in courting her. And, I saw her among the hundreds of crowd. It felt like I was floating on air while rendering the song.
She had also this inkling in music, being a singer and who knew also basic of guitar playing. I knew deep in my heart that having the same passion for music would make us a perfect pair. Or, was I just too excited with my feelings!
Too make the story short… I married that girl. Until now, I always serenade her with that mind sinking and heart sweeping song. We really gave our all since we are now still together after all these years – that was 1989 when I won just second place in that contest. But, winning the second best is nothing against winning the best girl ever in my life!
