GenSan’s 2008 income puts it in the Billionaires Club! Economy grows 12.7%!
General Santos City’s economy is really on a roll!
In the 2008 Annual Audit Report released by the Commission on Audit of the financial operations of the local government units, General Santos City had a total income of P1,005,912,377.66!
This makes the Tuna Capital of the Philippines a certified member of the Billionaires Club!
This is also 12.7% increase from previous year’s (2007) income of P892,530,170.71!
Check out this comparative analysis between the incomes of 2007 and 2008 below…

"Comparative INCOME ANALYSIS of GenSan in 2007 and 2008"
Out of this 2008 total income of GenSan (which includes the IRA – Internal Revenue Allotment from the National Government), expenditures amounted to the following:
- Personal Services – ——————— ————– P 402,030,712.39
- Maintenance and Operating Expenses - P 391,552,510.80
TOTAL EXPENDITURES - P 793,583, 223.19
Deducted from the Total Income for 2008, this leaves the city with a Net Operating Income of P212,329,154.47 in 2008.
According to City Administrator Marcelino Dospueblos, a portion of this will go to paying off ongoing Capital Projects which are part of “continuing appropriations.“ The other portions will be subject for appropriations for the succeeding years.
NOTE: “Continuing Appropriations” is money devoted to Infrastructures and Capital Items which have not yet been completed or have not yet been started.
Congratulations to General Santos City for continuing to grow, glow and go!
Kudos to the local government under Mayor Jun Acharon for steering the wheel towards making the city truly a Magandang GenSan!

Nice Kuya! Sa Wakas, napost mo rin 2! Congratulations ulit GENSAN…. Constant visitor din ako ng website ng coa (www.coa.gov.ph)…. : )
Pag maging urbanize pa ang Polomolok at Alabel…I think pwede na maging METRO ang GENSAN…Kasi Geographically speaking, “ang “METROPOLITAN AREA” refers to a large – scale functional entity, containing several urbanized areas, discontinuously build up (with no reference to political boundaries) but nonetheless operating as a coherent whole and integrated economic whole… ”
Dito sa SocSkSarGen, Merong GENSAN – Koronadal – Tacurong Cities… Between them are Polomolok and Tupi both 1st class municipalities, (the former aspiring to be a city sooner or later)…. Based sa definition, ang METRO area is not just composed of one city but a cluster of cities or at least a cluster of urbanized areas! thnx

How I wish and dream GENSAN will become a METRO soon!
METRO GENSAN? METRO SOCSARGEN? or METRO DADIANGAS perhaps?
I prefer the latter….

It would be nice to learn if the city government translate increase income performance measurement into increase quality of life of the Generals, such as the reduction of street children, unemployment, prostitution, malnourish children, school drop-outs, etc.. etc.. etc…

WITHOUT A DOUBT,GENERAL SANTOS CITY QUALIFIES TO BE A METROPOLITAN CITY, AS I RESEARCHED THE LATEST 10 (TEN) RANKERS OF METRO CITIES IN THE COUNTRY TODAY BY NEDA, GENSAN IS EVEN RICHER AND POPOULOUS THAN THOSE OF THE OTHER METROPOLITAN CITIES. GENSAN NAME INCLUDED IN THE BILLIONAIRES CLUB TODAY,ANDTOPPED AMONG POPULATED CITY IN THE COUNTRY ACCORDING TO THE NSO CENSUS OF 2007. MUCH MORE GENSAN IS THE TUNA CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, ALSO HOLD THE RECORD AS THREE TIME AWARDEE OF THE MOST COMPETITIVE MID SIZE CITY IN THE PHILIPPINES. THE GENERAL SANTOS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS THE THIRD LARGEST AIRPORT IN THE PHILIPPINES AFTER MANILA AND CEBU, AND THE CITY’S FISHPORT COMPLEX PASSED THE STANDARD AMONG EUROPEAN ASSOC.. THE TOWNS WHICH BOUNDED THE CITY ARE FIRST CLASS MUNICIPALITIES. OTHERWISE, TO BE A METRO CITY, ONE SHOULD CONSIDERS A CLUSTER OF HIGHLY OR PARTIALLY URBANIZED CITIES OR TOWNS. IN THE CASE OF GENSAN, THIS CITY QUALFIES THE CRITERIA BECAUSE IT IS BOUNDED BY FIRST CLASS MUNICIPALITIES AND ONE (1) PARTIALLY URBANIZED CITY WHICH IS KORONADAL CITY ADDED WITH COMPONENT CITY OF TACURONG. LIKE OTHER METROPOLITAN CITIES IN THE COUNTRY A CLUSTER OF FIVE (5) TO 17 (SEVENTEEN) DIVISION COMPOSES ONE TO BE MTEROPOLITAN CITY. AND THAT THEN GENERAL SANTOS CITY IS READY FOR METROPOLITAN STATUS.
magandang gensan!
