Robinsons and KCC Malls on a race to open the first 3D Cinema in the region

Posted by bariles On April - 30 - 2010 29 COMMENTS

Two weeks ago, Bariles reported that Robinsons GenSan Movieworld is going 3D soon for one of its cinemas.  (Read report by CLICKING HERE.)

A few days after that blog post came out, the GenSan Blogger met up with a KCC Mall of GenSan insider who remarked, “Sorry Bariles but Robinsons is just on the planning stage.  Our own KCC Cinemas has one 3D-equipped movie house already and it is ready to use anytime!

That revelation floored Bariles who then tried to fish out more info from his friend, “Then when are you using it?  How come you are not operating it yet?

Unlike Robinsons, he added, which will only be changing its projector for its assigned 3D cinema, KCC will be overhauling the whole theater...
The KCC insider then tried to explain that they are on the process of renovating their 3D-equipped theater, changing the seats to make it “acoustically compatible” with the 3D matched with their dolby digital sound; improving the walls to be able to withstand the sound effects and changing the screen.

Unlike Robinsons Movieworld, he added, which will only be changing its projector for its assigned 3D cinema, KCC will be overhauling the whole cinema, making it a more pleasurable 3D-moviegoing experience for the generals.

When pressed for the opening date, he replied, We will try to open GenSan and the region’s first 3D cinema before the end of this 2nd quarter.

Wow, is all Bariles could say after trying to digest all the good things he has just heard.  Competition really brings out the best in all parties concerned with the people of Soccsksargen benefiting the most.

This morning, when Bariles opened his email, he got this jpeg file from the mall from the farther end of Lagao Road, courtesy of a Robinsons GenSan insider. This is the picture attachment below….

Along with the picture above is this piece of news from the Robinsons insider:

Hi Bariles!

We are running SHREK FOREVER AFTER 3D on May 21 at Robinsons Movieworld Cinema.

Spread the word…..

Oh my God!!!  Now the real fun begins…..

New GenSan City Terminal Inaugurated

Posted by bariles On April - 26 - 2010 13 COMMENTS

The new General Santos City Terminal was finally inaugurated last week in a simple rites witnessed by city officials and workers from the transport industry,

Blessing the new building was Fr. Leo Acierto, CP who just planed in from the Holy Land after having been assigned there for three months. Fr. Leo who is Bariles’ closest priest was contacted by the Fishman himself after realizing that he is back in town for a sabbatical.

The new city terminal which costs the government P7.5million to construct is the second building inside the one hectare property donated by the Bulaong Family.  It will be used by vans and jeeps ferrying passengers from Gensan to all over Region 12 and beyond. The first terminal on the other hand, is being utilized by bus companies.

"FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE POLITICAL FENCE, COUNCILOR DOM LAGARE AND CITY MAYOR JUN ACHARON SHARE A GOOD LAUGH AFTER CUTTING THE RIBBON MARKING THE OPENING OF THE GENSAN CITY TERMINAL. LOOKING ON IS CITY COUNCILOR MEG SANTOS AND FORMER COUNCILOR BETH BAGONOC."

The new Gensan city terminal building occupies almost 300o square meters lot beside the first one and is located near the exit of the compound. It also contains toilets for men and women and a space for an office.

"A PHOTO OF THE NEW GENSAN CITY TERMINAL, A FEW WEEKS BEFORE IT WAS FORMALLY INAUGURATED."

Hopefully, after this, the perimeter fence surrounding the terminal compound will be constructed to make it more secure and the cementing of the roads going inside and outside its gates.    Undoubtedly, this 2nd terminal building is a step towards the right direction in a city whose passenger traffic is growing tremendously by the minute.

Fully Booked opens first Mindanao outlet at KCC Mall of GenSan

Posted by bariles On April - 22 - 2010 36 COMMENTS

General Santos City will soon be definitely known as Book Lover’s Paradise as another large bookstore is landing on her shores.

On the heels of the two NATIONAL BOOKSTORE outlets which opened at Gaisano Mall of GenSan and Robinsons Place GenSan respectively, now comes FULLY BOOKED, which will occupy one of the two 300 square meter frontage vacant spaces facing Jose Catolico Sr. Avenue of KCC Mall of GenSan.

How different is Fully Booked from National Bookstore and why should we get excited about its entry into GenSan?

First, just like a Pet Farm where tourists are allowed to touch, pet and feed animals, the customers of Fully Booked can browse as long as they want through their modish interiors while looking for titles which suit their unique, individual life styles.  On hand are well-informed staff who will assist them on their search and make recommendations on the latest bestsellers.

Customers can open and scan books and sit on any of the upholstered couches scattered all throughout the store while being pampered by soothing music and brownout-free refreshing airconditioning.

On one corner could be a Starbucks or Bo’s or BluGre nook, offering their best brews.

All these mean that Fully Booked is a bookstore, library and coffee shop in one and is undoubtedly a lifestyle destination.

"THIS IS THE FULLY BOOKED OUTLET IN AYALA CENTER, CEBU CITY."

Here’s more from their website:

Fully Booked is home to the widest and most diverse range of titles, offering hard-to-find and exclusive books of every interest. With over 100,000 titles covering five main categories, namely Lifestyle, Children, Design, Humanities and Professional, Fully Booked has captured the loyalty of book lovers of all ages and walks of life. Discriminate graphic novel enthusiasts may likewise marvel at what remains as the country’s widest selection of graphic novels.

Our merchandise is not limited to just books. We boast high quality stationery as well as limited edition statues, rare compact discs and other collectibles.

Besides being a retail outfit, Fully Booked carries exclusive distributorship of international record labels such as Harmonia Mundi, ECM Records and Channel Classics Records among others.

Fully Booked now has ten stores in the metropolis, located at the Rockwell Power Plant (3rd Floor), the Promenade in Greenhills,.Gateway Mall, SM Mall of Asia, SM North The Block, Trinoma, Eastwood Mall, EDSA Shangri-la Hotel, Greenbelt 5, and the flagship store at Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City plus another store in Ayala Center, Cebu City.

Their KCC Mall of GenSan outlet therefore, is their first in Mindanao which says a lot about the bookstore owners’ confidence in the local economy.

With all that to look forward to, we have to hand it over to KCC Mall of GenSan for continually levelling up and giving us more reasons to patronize them even with the entry of Manila-based giant malls.

And of course, everything redounds to the benefit of the generals and the people from outlying areas who are fortunate to be in the midst of all these positive developments.

Ang sarap maging General talaga sa mga panahong ito!

Robinsons GenSan Movieworld going 3D!!!

Posted by bariles On April - 16 - 2010 31 COMMENTS

Just when Bariles thought that it would take years before General Santos City would have its own 3D-equipped moviehouse due to the influx of 3D versions of films like AvatarHow to Train your Dragon, and Clash of the Titans, among others, comes this piece of great news!

Robinsons Movieworld, one of the largest movie theater chains in the Philippines, joins the 3D movie boom as it “fast-tracks the conversion of existing theaters, from one 3D-equipped screen (in Robinsons Movieworld Galleria), to at least a total of nine”, according to a Philippine Star report yesterday.

It then proceeds to name the mall’s branches which will be equipped with one 3D Cinema each, including General Santos City!!!!

Robinsons GenSan Movieworld is the first to bring  into the city modern theater equipment such as high-fidelity sound from THX, Dolby and Sony and film production equiment from Christie and Strong of the US and Kinoton of Germany.  It also introduced to the generals moviegoing niceties such as fully carpeted theaters, wide semi-reclining upholstered seats, maximized legroom and uber clean restrooms!  All these enhanced the moviegoing experience of movie addicts, like Bariles.

Nilo Mapa, GM of Robinsons Malls, who was in GenSan for its opening last year (click here for photos of the opening) explained that their 3D theaters will be equipped with the leading technologies Dolby Digital 3D and MasterImage Digital 3D.

When this materializes, then that would make Robinsons Place GenSan their first and only mall with a 3D Cinema in Mindanao.  And for the record, it will be South Central Mindanao‘s first, too!  WoW!  Bariles could just imagine moviegoers from all over lining up to watch the next 3D movie here without having to go to Davao anymore.

Anyway, the movies to watch for in 3D at the Robinsons GenSan Movieworld 3D Cinema are Toy Story 1 & 2, Shrek Forever After, Toy Story 3, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, and Despicable Me.

3D moviegoing experience in GenSan?  Can’t wait!  Thanks Robinsons for making this happen soon!

Now, aren’t you glad you’re from GenSan?

Topnotch GenSan Hotel, East Asia Royale Hotel cements its reputation as General Santos City’s premier happening place as it offers two wet nights to cool off partyphiles this summer!

Guys and gals, welcome to East Asia Royale Hotel’s “SARAP MAGBABAD FOAM PARTY“!

For two straight nights this weekend, April 16-17, 2010, the Sarap Mag-Babad Foam Party will happen right at the East Asia Royale Hotel Parking Lot, along the National Highway, GenSan!

This is hotelier Romeo Bartolome‘s second foam party event this year, having given GenSan the first one during the 2010 Kalilangan Festival, which we blogged about here (CLICK THIS).

For the Sarap Mag-Babad Foam Parties, the entrance fee will only be P100. Featured performers are a Manila-based band named MYSTIX BAND, two Davao-based bands BIRDSEYE BAND and CHECK IT OUT BAND together with GenSan bands RENAISSANCE and TOOLBOX.

Expect these two nights then to simultaneously cool and heat up the partyphiles of the Tuna Capital as all these bands will take turns to make sure that these will be the wettest and wildest in the history of Gensan’s night life.

PARTY ADVISORY:  Beach wear or light clothing is strongly advised.

Michael Jackson Tribute Artist moonwalks in GenSan!

Posted by bariles On April - 8 - 2010 7 COMMENTS

Just when you thought that Michael Jackson is really gone, here comes the Prince of Pop to our very shores of General Santos City in once-in-a-lifetime performance!

Well, it is not really the Gloved One but someone who looks, dances, sings and performs just like him.  His name is Kenny Wizz, the Michael Jackson Tribute Artist from Vegas, USA.  In other words, he is the best Michael jackson impersonator in the whole wide world!

He will be in GenSan to perform in a concert called “THE MICHAEL JACKSON EXPERIENCE presents Kenny Wizzz ” at the Gen. Santos City Gym in Barangay Lagao on May 2, 2010, from 8:00 pm.

Here is something about Kenny Wizz, which Bariles got from his website:

Kenny Wizz was born in Los Angeles, California. He grew up listening R&B , Soul and Pop music.

At the age of fourteen, Kenny performed street dancing with his friends for a few years. As Kenny approached twenty years old, Michael Jackson reached the peak of his career with the release of the “Thriller” album. At that time, Kenny was told by many people that he had a strong resemblance to Michael Jackson. Through an agent, Kenny was soon making TV appearances, commercials and personal appearances.

During his early twenties, Kenny started performing in shows in California. He was then approached by the producer of “LaCage” where he performed in Atlantic City. He captivated audiences on a nightly basis where and had the chance to perfect his act.

Kenny was then approached other producers overseas where he performed in shows throughout Europe and Asia.

When he arrived back in the states, he was signed to a contract for eleven years as the tribute to Michael Jackson in Las Vegas in the show “Splash” at the Riviera Hotel and Casino.

Today, Kenny Wizz lives in Las Vegas and is known to be one of the best Michael Jackson tribute artist. He performs in the US and overseas.

So there. At the popular ticket prices of P800, P500 and P200, “The Michael Jackson Experience” is one imported show from the US the generals sure should not miss!  For reservations, call (083) 553-1592 or text 0910-3653363 or 0917-5042681.

GenSan View Resort, a Summer Escape within the city

Posted by bariles On April - 7 - 2010 11 COMMENTS

Bariles could have blogged about GenSan View Resort a few months back when he first toured it together with other GenSan Bloggers.  He waited for the right timing though, wanting to post it during the advent of the summer months.  And now that summer is upon us, here it is.

GenSan View Resort which formally opened in December 2009 is owned by couple Joel and Patrice Santos.  It sits in a portion of their old eight-hectare  “hito” and “tilapia” farm along the old Nursery Road (beside Susana Homes) at Barangay Lagao.

It is envisioned by the couple to be General Santos City’s “escape from the city, within the city”, a water and fishing resort offering an uncluttered, clean, peaceful and child-friendly setting.  Here, the generals do not have to go very far to enjoy the merits of fresh, sparkling clear, cool swimming pools.

GenSan View Resort has two pools. The larger one is for adults while the smaller pool which has a giant mushroom-like shower fountain in the center, is for kids and toddlers.  A modern filtration process is used to regularly clean the fresh water and ensure that it doesn’t smell of chlorine which hurts when it gets to the eyes.

Both pools are partially surrounded by native cottages which serve as the picnickers area.

"SOME OF THE NIPA HUTS SURROUNDING THE TWO POOLS OF GENSAN VIEW RESORT"

What’s special about these cottages is that the straws of their thatched roofs reach down to give privacy to the picnickers inside them. The tables have silica tops and there are even overhead racks to store bags and other things.

"INSIDE ONE OF THE THATCHED ROOF COTTAGES OF GENSAN VIEW RESORT."

For those who would want to go fishing and/or boating, at the back end of the resort is this sign below which will lead you to their fish pond, containing hito and tilapia.

"THE SIGN POINTING TO THE FISHING AND BOATING AREA AT THE BACK OF THE HUTS"

The cobbled walk going to the fishpond leads to a small floating cottage for would-be fishermen.

The fishermen-wanna-be’s will be given a choice of baits for the tilapia and hito – worms or shellfish.

"DO YOU LIKE WORMS AS BAITS?"

"OR SHELLFISH FOR THE TILAPIA AND HITO?"

After putting the bait in your fish hook, then you can start fishing just like this guy in the picture below…..

Or go boating instead at the fishpond, just like Blogger Hannabebs here in this photo…

Here are the other features of GenSan View Resort…..

"THE WASHING AREA FOR RAW FOOD. BEHIND IT IS THE GRILLING OR INIHAWAN AREA."

'THE GRILLING, BROILING OR IHAWAN/SUGBAHAN AREA BEHIND THE WASHING AREA."

"THE GENSAN VIEW RESORT TOILETS, SHOWERS AND CHANGING ROOMS"

"THE FEMALE RESTROOM"

"MALE RESTROOMS"

Lastly below is the Roofed Hall or Pavilion which can be rented out by big groups for P1,500 only. The whole resort by the way, may be yours exclusively for P5,000.

As for our last word……

Entrance to the resort is only P50 per person. For reservations or any inquiry, please call telephone #s (083) 302-8237.

Anton Diva and K Brosas headline KCC Mall Promo Concert

Posted by bariles On April - 5 - 2010 7 COMMENTS

KCC Mall of GenSan is once again conducting a marketing gimmick for their Department Store by tying it up with the concert of two very famous stand-up comedians on May 2, 2010.   This comes in time with the recent opening to the public of their new Department Store Annex, found at the North Wing of their Upper Ground Floor.

Guys, welcome Anton Diva and K Brosas to their GenSan concert billed “Funtastic Summer with Anton and K”!

Anton Diva is the country’s best Regine Velasquez impersonator who sounds very much just like her, including the birits and shrieks and high thrills she does while singing the Asia’s Songbird’s hits like “Shine”, “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw”, “Pangako”, etc.  It will be Anton Diva’s first time to perform in GenSan and Bariles is HIGHLY RECOMMENDING her to the readers of this blog!  He has been a fan ever since he saw her perform at the Venue in Davao City along with now super famous Vice Ganda.

K Brosas was here last year with Pooh and stole the show from him when they both performed at the GenSan Gym in Barangay Lagao.  Bariles would want to watch her do her very hilarious interpretation of ‘TUWING UMUULAN AT KAPILING KA“, the song which immediately made her GenSan’s favorite!

It is basically a two-in-one GenSan Concert of two of the country’s in-demand comedy concert artists and tickets to it are FREE!  Here is what you have to do!

Those who want to get FREE TICKETS to this concert may just exchange their purchase receipts worth at least P300 to get ONE FREE TICKET. Each KCC shopper can get only a maximum of five (5) tickets.  The show which is on May 2, 2010 will start at exactly 4:00pm.

For more info on this “Fantastic Summer with Anton Diva and K Brosas” GenSan Concert at the KCC Convention and Event Center,  you may call KCC Mall of GenSan at (083) 554-5555.
