SOCOTECO II sets 3-hour once-daily Brownouts!

Posted by bariles On May - 18 - 2010 - 38 views

Bariles was at this morning’s bi-monthly City Mayor’s Press Conference conducted by the City Public Information Office at the CMO Conference Room, General Santos City Hall.  It was attended by members of the media, mostly from the City Hall Press Corps.

Five issues were taken up, all of which were relayed in advanced to the CPIO who then invited the concerned respondents to the attend the presscon and answer the queries.  One of the invitees was SOCOTECO II.

SOCOTECO II was represented by Engineer Sotelo in the 3-hour presscon.  He diligently fielded off questions from the fifteen or so media personnel present and used up 75% of the alloted time.

During the proceedings, the engineer released a new advisory, announcing that “BROWNOUTS WILL NOW OCCUR FOR THREE HOURS ONLY, ONCE DAY” effective immediately (May 18, 2010), until the end of the month.

This of course, was greeted with glee by most of the presscon attendees who had to suffer 12-hour brownouts daily for the past three months!!!

Here is that piece of advisory, together with the new groupings A, B, C and D for the city’s feeders:

3hrs_once a Day_4 Groups

The decrease in # of hours from 12 hours daily to 3 hours daily came about after the National Grid Corporation announced to SOCOTECTO II yesterday, May 17, 2010, a “slight increase of available power”, with Mindanao island’s system deficiency going down from 700-750 megawatss to only 300 megawatts.

In layman’s terms, the water level in their dams has gone up due to the onset of the rains.

However, this is not enough for a brownout-free GenSan finally, and so as the advisory above states, “Brownouts will be expected during peak hours, starting from 10 AM to 10 PM.  NGCP assures no curtailment before 10 o-clock in the morning and after ten o’clock in the evening.”

Hopefully, if the rains continue to fall, life will return to normal for all of us again.

And as for SOCOTECTO II, the management must be thankful for the rains although the company is still intent of buying a powerful generator as a standby source of electricity.

And take note, they have also initiated talks with CONAL HOLDINGS for the possibility of employing their services to supply SOCOTECO II with additional power source once it is available.

Uh-oh!  Bariles is hearing more grumbling in the background….

Haaay a bit of not so good news. 3 hours brownout at work, and another 3 hours brownout at home for me. I hope there is a way for the City government to invite investors for the power generation, probably offer socoteco II for sale or something. “Para sa pagbabago”

As for me, still NOT worth rejoicing. I don’t want to be negative, apathetic nor pointing fingers on our officials on this brownout thing problem which cause us a lot of inconveniences. It seems to me that the NGC is not consistent on their statement nor serious of their job. If my memory serves me right, 4 months ago when this problem came out in the national television, a certain NGC official was interviewed & says that even though we will have rain here in Mindanao come June, our electricity problem will be normalize by December 2010. And now they came out again with the statement “…the water level in their dams has gone up due to the onset of the rains..”

I have the impressions that our electricity power problem is merely a political thing issues. They just exagerrated this for some reasons that they themselves only know. If we do really have a problem in our current power our local & national government should do something now.

My suggestion is how about studying the SOLAR ENERGY if it works on our place. Since WINDMILL is a big factor in Ilocos region then why not our local government make a study on this. While Coal is not good to our environment due to the added heat it may create.

Remember the current problem of our power deficiency are not only concerns one sector, nor two but to ALL OF US. THEY MUST DO SOMETHING NOW !!!!

In darkness, bampires suck the blood of their victims.

With brown put in our city, SOCOTECO II sucks our money as we are paying excessive bills which we do not know how it happened until i doubt the accuracy of the meter reading of the kilowatt my family used at them house. by then, when I started sharing with you my sad experiences with SOCOTECO. . . people who read my comments found it unbelievable. . . but my neighbors can attest the truthfulness and accuracy of my expose. When my neighbors saw the differences of the of both monthly bill in January 2010 and compared ,with the meter watt……….. ……….
    grabe . . . ANG LAKI NG DIPERENSYA. . . .

Suddenly, my neighbors also checked out their meter watt and their monthly billing of january 2010 . . . almost the same with mine. . Sus ginoo . . . .ang layo ng actuakl reading sa kuntador at sa monthly statement of accounts. . .

MAthematically, my neighbors have unusual differences . . . 44 kw; 53kw; 63 kw; 39kw; 22kw; 69kw; and finally yung akin 67kw; ang laki ng sobra ano po??

Pero sa totoo lang, imposible nga makagamit kami ng more than 160kw+ eh mga working parents lahat kaming mga neighbors at nakababa ang main switch. So by computing the differences. . . abaw gid, more than 725 yung sobra sa akin . . .

kawawa tayong mga GENERALS. . . . brown out lagi at di pala binabasa yung mga kuntador natin . . nang tama at wasto. . . by estimate lang pala. . .

pwes. . . simula nang madiskubre ko ang pandaraya ng SOCOTECO II.. . . i am waiting sa tagabasa ng kuntador ,. , . . ma check ko yung binasa nya at nilista. . .kung tama o mali.

kung tama. . .ok go sya. . .

kapag mali, KULATA SYA SA AKIN.
