SM Open Plaza to ignite GenSan’s night life more
One of the most important contributions of Robinsons Place GenSan to the city is its Al Fresco strip of restaurants, bars and coffee shops.
Ever since this row opened a year ago in October 2009, the night life of General Santos City eventually woke up with more and more people slowly discovering the pleasures of staying up until midnight in any one of Robinsons now famous hangouts, like Piyesta KTV and Resto Bar, Big Ben’s Steaks, Sunset Bistro, Bigby’s, Grab A Crab Restaurant, Coffee Club 101 and Blue Gre Coffee.
Robinsons Al Fresco strip is now the hippest place to chill at night whether on quiet weekdays or during the more action-filled weekends when various acoustic bands are available to entertain a mostly yuppie crowd. The area has transformed the once lifeless city into a bustling recreation center of South Central Mindanao.
That is the very reason why SM City GenSan will also be coming up with their own strip to help enliven the Tuna Capital’s night life even more. Set to open on February 2012, 14 months from now is their very own entertainment and fun strip in a section of their mall which they call the “OPEN PLAZA“.
Here is an artist’s sketch of SM CITY GENSAN’s OPEN PLAZA…

As Bariles mentioned in an earlier post about SM City GenSan, the mall’s very own version of Robinsons’ Al Fresco Strip will occupy two floors of the mall’s east side (nearest Socoteco compound) with two wings encircling a GIANT FOUNTAIN at the center in a U-formation.
Below is the right wing, from a rear end perspective…

Based on these designs and other SM City GenSan perspectives, it is very clear that the owners of SM City GenSan is leaving no stone unturned in making sure that their mall will easily clinch the #1 title in South Central Mindanao once they have established themselves.
What is really certain though is the eventuality that with Mr. Henry Sy’s new mall adorning GenSan’s ever evolving skyline, the city is well on its way to becoming Mindanao’s most exciting city of the future!

naku…sana hindi mabasa ng tubig mula sa gigantic fountain ang mga outdoor diners and tambayers kapag lumakas ang hangin from the south lalo na sa bandang hapon.
Toinks12/17/2010 at 9:51 AM
Sana nilagay na lang ang open plaza facing Santiago Blvd. mas maganda kasi sa side na yun kapag hapon at sunset…direct strike talaga sya ng palubog na araw…mas may drama.

Wow! Definitely the design is very different from the usual “box type” malls of SM in the country we have. Mr. Bariles when you published the first SM City GenSan perspective last previous months, it was faced with mixed reactions among us Generals some appreciate it, while most was a bit dismayed. While others still hoping that the best has yet to unfold.
Now it is clear, truly SM answered to our “prayers’ to make our own version of SM a bit different, elegant in taste, nature friendly in style! This is really good news to all of us and the excitement never ends…

Ang tinood man gyud nga meaning sa word nga “mall” is a commercial street that is closed to any form of vehicular traffic. So tama lang na dapat mahimog trend sa designs sa mga malls karon ang alfresco, landscaping og water features as like being one with the immediate environment and not much of making an artificial environment in an enclosed space. We are very blessed here that we are in a tropical region. Now is a perfect time for us to learn to appreciate and make the BEST out of what we naturally have.

This is one of my best city sites that I really boast to my colleagues in Cebu.. Though, SM Cebu is really that big than this, I could really say that SM General Santos has it’s own beauty that speaks to the city itself and that is elegance and really world class.
Tito Avel, Congratulations! to your recent award for being the best blogger in Mindanao.

The advent of modern architecture in today’s gen-X-ers era has ignited Ayala malls to build structures with not just plain gray but putting on greens & waters as well and SM Gensan is duplicating such engineering. It’s really exhilarating to think that we got one mall opening soon offering a one-of-a-kind amusement. wow! this is nice and something to brag about.
prince07/18/2011 at 4:13 PM
nice one..so cool..para syang little MALL of ASIA…tnx SM..Mabuhay!!magandang GENSAN!!!
micks07/24/2011 at 9:06 PM
nice one SM, what’s next for gensan will be the call centers rising left and right…. i think ayala malls will be here soon with a concept of Bonifacio High Street and Mckinley Hill in Taguig… just proud to be GENERALS!
White Knight07/31/2011 at 9:43 AM
@Micks. Is it true that Ayala Land Corp. will be here soon? or just a mere speculation yet out of excitement hehe. Well, if that is true then that would certainly change GenSan’s lifestyle. But i bet it will take five to ten years from now for Ayala to come in. It takes time, just like the Abreeza complex (3 phases-mall, boutique hotel & call center) its almost 7 years in the making from planning, conceptualizing to designing, since they acquired the 10 hectares lot.
I’m sure Ayala will give Gensan the time to savor SM’s world class shopping experience before they come in. By then, maybe we will be ready for an upscale mall such as Ayala but it all depends on the General’s purchasing power. Sound’s true is’nt it? Haha
Tingkoling07/31/2011 at 4:36 PM
We’ll never know.
fahdingding08/02/2011 at 9:14 AM
With GENSAN right now..anything is possible… I agree with micks that BPOs are the next BIG thing for Gensan … AYALA, NCCC, MP Mall, and others will surely have their time and place here in Gensan…
And don’t forget we need more accommodation facilities like HOTELS as Gensan is positioning to become the “Convention Capital of the Philippines” next to Cebu City… I see a bright prospect here!
And Gensan also have other industries waiting to be developed further like REAL ESTATE, TOURISM and HEALTH… and I find SM to be the “CATALYST” for the further development of GENSAN in the future…
MAGANDANG GENSAN to all…
White Knight09/21/2011 at 12:29 PM
Here’s good news to us Generals, SM Management officially confirmed that soon to open SM CITY General Santos will be the biggest SM Mall in Mindanao (so far) with an area of 150,000 square meters (15 hectares) bigger than SM Ecoland, Lanang & Cagayan de Oro. Contrary to the speculations of its actual size circulated for the past months, now it was finally revealed & confirmed by Mr. Henry Sy, Jr himself.
Another good news is they are finalizing to open SM CITY as well in Zamboanga & Butuan Cities. So Mindanao after all is definitely growing despite its “bad peace & order” perception from others.
This is great, isn’t it exciting? I’m humbled by the trust & confidence given by the SM mngt.
