Last year, we experimented placing a page for our blog, GenSan News Online Mag on Facebook to be able to post our latest articles there and have others immediately find it and realize that such a blog about General Santos City exists.

Now, less than a year after we did it, the Facebook Page of GenSantos.Com has over 3,600 LIKES!  This might not be much by “superstar” standards, but hey, we are grateful that you took time to like us and allowed our latest blog posts to appear in your FB PROFILEs’ news streams.

For the month of March 2010, the KCC Mall of GenSan is bringing in two famous ABS-CBN talents for a show at their KCC Convention and Events Center.

One is a finalist at the first Season of Pilipinas Got Talent and the other one is an acclaimed character actor and a mainstay judge at the late morning show “Showtime“.

Guys, let’s all hear it for Magician Alakim and Dance Guru Jhong Hilario!

Alakim was in GenSan for a show last year billed as  Alakim Magic Tricks while this is Jhong Hilario’s first visit.  Together, they will be performing on March 20, 2011 from 6pm onwards.

For those who are just beginning to take up Photography as a hobby or just dreaming to, there’s gonna be a Back to Basics Digital Photography Seminar-Workshop this weekend to be conducted in General Santos City!  It’s from former GenSan Camera Club president and MSU professor Dong Pading!

Here is the Workshop Outline:

**Digital Cameras

~ Understand the differences between various types of digital cameras.

~ Compare specifications and isolate features important to your personal workflow.

~ Appreciate the limitations of various systems and their impact on image capture

and quality.

**File Management

~ Implement fast and efficient systems for managing your image fi les.

~ Generate and apply metadata templates and keywords.

~ Batch rename and batch process images to alternative file formats.

~ Archive images.

**Exposure

~ Gain a knowledge and understanding of exposure and its relationship to light

sensitive surfaces, depth of field and selective focus.

~ Understand the camera’s TTL light meter.

~ Understand the relationship between subject brightness range and exposure.

~ Create images demonstrating an understanding of metering techniques.

**Camera RAW

~ Capture high quality digital images as camera RAW fi les.

~ Process a camera RAW fi le to optimize color, tonality and sharpness.

~ Use camera RAW settings to batch process images for print and web viewing.

~ Convert RAW fi les to digital negatives for archival.

**Framing the Image / composition

~ Develop an awareness of how a photographic image is a two-dimensional composition

of lines, shapes and patterns.

~ Develop an understanding of how differing photographic techniques can affect both the

emphasis and the meaning of the subject matter.

~ Look at the composition of different photographs and the design techniques used.

~ Create digital images through close observation and selection that demonstrate how the

frame can create compositions of shape, line and pattern.

~ Document the progress and development of these skills.

**Creative Controls

~ Increase your knowledge and understanding about aperture, shutter speed and

focal length and their combined effects on visual communication.

~ Increase your familiarity and fluency with your personal camera equipment.

~ Research professional photographic practice to demonstrate a visual

understanding of applied camera technique.

~ Create images that demonstrate a working knowledge of depth of field, timed

exposures and perspective.

**Light

~ Gain an understanding of how light changes the character and mood of an image.

~ Develop an awareness of subject contrast and the dynamic range of image sensors.

~ Understand the relationship between lighting contrast, lighting ratios, subject

contrast and subject brightness range.

~ Learn about exposure compensation and ‘appropriate’ exposure.

~ Learn how to manage diffi cult lighting conditions on location.

**Lighting on Location

~ Change the character and mood of subject matter using lighting.

~ Develop an awareness of overall subject contrast and how this is translated by the

capture medium.

~ Develop skills in controlling introduced lighting on location.

~ Research a range of fi ll and fl ash lighting techniques.

~ Produce photographic images demonstrating how lighting techniques control

**Digital Post-processing/Editing

~ Enhance and optimize digital fi les for maximum impact.

~ Optimize the dynamic range of digital images.

~ Optimize image contrast and saturation.

~ Create localized adjustments to control communication and enhance design.

~ Target shadow and highlight tones for a specific c output device.

~ Sharpen images using an adjustable Unsharp Mask layer.

~ Control the resulting tonal range of an image converted from RGB to black and white.

**Panoramic Photographs

~ Develop an understanding of the steps involved in producing panoramic photos.

~ Be aware of the range of stitching software options that is available.

~ Develop skills in the shooting phase of the process using the following techniques:

– Positioning the camera

– Locating and using the nodal point of the lens

– Ensuring image overlap

– Keeping the camera level

– Controlling exposure, contrast and white balance characteristics

– Controlling depth of field, focus and zoom settings

**Landscape

~ Increase knowledge of the historical development of the landscape image.

~ Express ideas, convictions or emotions through landscape images.

~ Develop an understanding of how different techniques can be employed to

aid personal expression.

~ Produce photographic images exploring expressive landscape (take home activity)

**Environmental Portraits

~ Develop an increased awareness of the actions and interactions of a broad spectrum of

people.

~ Develop personal skills in directing people.

~ Develop essential technical skills to work confidently and fluently.

~ Produce images through close observation and selection that demonstrate both a

comfortable working relationship with people at close range and appropriate design.

**(Assignments & take home activity)

**The Photographic Essay

~ Increase knowledge of the photographic essay.

~ Understand visual communication through narrative techniques.

~ Develop an awareness of receptive and projective styles of photography.

~ Understand the process of editing to clarify or manipulate communication.

~ Increase awareness of commercial, ethical and legal considerations.

~ Capture and/or create images to communicate a specific narrative and edit the work

Fee: P1,500.00 (Inclusive of: snacks, lunch, Handouts and Certificate of Attendance)/ 50% downpayment for slot reservation

This Back to Basics Digital Photography Seminar-Workshop will be held on March 5, 2011 (Saturday) at a venue to be announced later.

Here are the things to bring and prepare for the workshop :

Digital Single Lens reflex (DSLR) camera, or any point-and-shoot digital cam with Manual (M) setting. They also encourage you to bring your laptop for the digital post processing session.  it is also recommended that you pre-install Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom softwares in your laptop prior to the workshop proper. Lastly, prior to the the workshop schedule, if you get bored reading your camera’s manual, browse that booklet called the “quick guide”.
