Posted by bariles On May - 10 - 2011 1 COMMENT

Calling all the members of the great Aquilino and Gregoria Manansala CLAN!

There’s gonna be a HUGE Clan Reunion on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Le Jardin Arnevel’s, along Mabuhay Road, GenSan!

So if you are descendants of the nine children of Aquilino and Gregoria Yumang-Manansala, namely Sofronio (Ompong), Felicisima (Simang Balingit), Isidro (Eding), Marcela (Selang dela Cruz), Ildefonso (Osong), Jesus, Avelino (Elong), Angela (Celing Bustos) and Rafaela (Pelang Cunanan), then better coordinate with any of the members of the steering committee.

Both Aquilino and Gregoria are originally from Macabebe, Pampanga who migrated here in the 1930′s after eldest son Sofronio (one of the pillars of the Iglesia ni Cristo in South Central Mindanao) who came here earlier convinced them of a better life and future in the vast plains of what was then known as Buayan.  And so they came, bringing the whole brood with them.   They never left ever since.

Bariles who is the eldest offspring of Avelino assures his relatives who will be joining this reunion that it will be one exciting and fun-filled occasion for everyone.  The younger members of the clan have prepared a program and set of activities which they will never forget and which will surely make them closer as a family.

Incidentally, his younger brother Orman is the current president of Aguman Capampangan, who just recently conducted a Lenten Pabasa.

You may check out the Aquilino & Gregoria Manansala Clan Facebook page by clicking this—>  Aquilino & Gregoria Manansala Facebook Page.

Habal-Habal sa GenSan: The 22nd Mid-year Orthopaedics Convention

Posted by bariles On May - 4 - 2011 4 COMMENTS

Starting tomorrown, May 5 and up to Saturday, the Philippine Orthopaedic Association is conducting their 22nd Mid-year Convention at the KCC Mall of GenSan Convention and Events Center!  Hosting it is their South Mindanao Chapter headed by Dr. Siegfried Rabang.

2011 seems to be a banner year for GenSan when it comes to hosting national conventions just like this one.  This gathering of bone doctors however, which includes a member of the Soccsksargen Bloggers, Dr. Remo Aguilar caught our eye because of their convention theme:  HABAL-HABAL SA GENSAN!

Perusing through their activities (which we are sharing below) would indicate that a major focus of their discussions would be on “motorcycle accidents”, being one of the biggest cause of injuries and deaths in the countryside.  Habal-Habal is basically, a Visayan term for a “motorcycle for hire”.   Very interesting and very apt considering that GenSan has a lot of this modern-day phenomenon.

It won’t be just work for our visiting orthopaedics of course.  They will be toured around Soccsksargen and will be the first really big group to try the ziplines of 5th Mountain of Balakayo Adventure Park.

Now on its 12th year, Dolores Hotels and Resorts’ Search for Tropicana Hunks and Babes 2011 (formerly BIKINI OPEN) is gearing up to make the month of May the hottest ever!

As with the past years, 10 men and 10 women from General Santos City, South Cotabato and Davao will be vying for the coveted titles as Babe and Hunk of the Year.  Judging from their looks on their photos at the official poster above, this could be one of the most exciting years of the decade-old event at the Dolores Tropicana Resort Hotel.

This Bikini-Open style pageant will transpire on May 14, 2011 at 8:00pm.  A minimum charge of P100 will entitle beach-goers to a seat inside the fenced-in area of the resort reserved for the pageant.

SanMig’s acquires coal mines in Soccsksargen for GenSan coal power plant

Posted by bariles On May - 2 - 2011 12 COMMENTS

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer today, GenSan News Online Mag found out that San Miguel Corporation is hell-bent of pursuing its initial plan to build a coal-fired power plant in General Santos City with the acquisition of more coal mines in the Soccskargen area.

The report, written by Amy Remo says that according the SMC President Ramon S. Ang, “the company was targeting to begin this year the construction of some of its proposed coal-fired facilities in Mindanao.”

The report continues:

In particular, Ang explained, the company would already start studying the logistics and infrastructure requirements for these coal facilities.Ang said the company planned to initially put up a 300-MW mine-mouth coal power plant in General Santos City following the acquisition of a coal mine in the province. A 300-MW coal facility would need about 750,000 tons of coal a year.

Although he did not reveal San Miguel’s planned investment in the facility, Ang said the conglomerate would invest as much as $1 million to produce one megawatt of power from coal resources. This meant that for the initial 300-MW project, San Miguel would need to invest some $300 million or roughly P13.5 billion.

San Miguel acquired last year three coal mines in South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat with resources capable of generating an initial 1,200 MW. These were previously owned by Daguma Agro Minerals Inc., Bonanza Energy Resources Inc. and Sultan Energy Mining and Development Corp.

Whoa!  $300 million is definitely a huge investment for GenSan and could hasten its entry into the major league of prosperous cities in the country alongside Makati, Davao, and Cebu!

It could also alleviate the worsening power crisis besetting the island of Mindanao alongside the proposed Alcantara-owned plant being pushed in Sarangani province.

The problem is, would the people of General Santos City  allow it, considering the opposition of some quarters regarding its safety and effects on the ecological balance of Sarangani Bay?

What are your thoughts, dear readers?
