Super Funny Manny Pacquiao HP Touchpad TV Commercial

Posted by bariles On June - 28 - 2011 5 COMMENTS

Right at the heels of  the funny Manny Pacquiao HP Veer Phone TV Commercial which came out earlier this month, comes an even funnier TV ad featuring the World Champ hawking another HP product.

Friends, get ready to be amused even more by the super funny Manny Pacquiao HP Touchpad TV Commercial!

The commercial again features Manny speaking in heavily-accented English, talking about the his accomplishments inside and outside of the ring, including his winning as Congressman of Sarangani Province and in his current exploits as a recording artist.  It even shows him performing the song “Sometimes When We Touch“, a duet with Dan Hill, its original singer.

But it’s actually Manny Pacquiao‘s wide smile flashing his pearly whites towards the end of this HP Touchpad TV Commercial which got me!  To check out what we mean, check it out!

Like it!  For sure this super funny Manny Pacquiao HP Touchpad TV Commercial will get a million hits before that much-awaited Pacquiao-Marquez Fight III happens later this year!

GenSan’s Sta.Cruz Seafood’s Bangus Belly grabs Trendy Awards Gold

Posted by bariles On June - 27 - 2011 5 COMMENTS

A local food manufacturer from General Santos City captured the Grand Prize in the 2011 Trendy Awards at the 8th International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines, the largest and most comprehensive all-food event in the Philippines.

First place went to Santa Cruz Seafood and their frozen milkfish belly v-cuts from full-sized milkfish grown on the seawaters of GenSan, now turning out to be one of the country’s leading areas for aquaculture exports.

The yearly Trendy Awards is a project of the Dept. of Trade & Industry (DTI) through the Center for International Trade Expositions & Missions (CITEM) to search for local innovations in content & packaging of new food products & applications and those which exemplify succesful adaptation to consumer lifestyle and preferences, and its readiness for the challenges and requirements of the global consumer.

Sta. Cruz Seafood’s frozen Bangus Belly V-cuts lorded it over a crop of 22 shortlisted IFEX exhibitors whose new food products or applications were judged on newness of the idea, product innovation, packaging design and innovation, and market demand.

Sta. Cruz’s milkfish belly cuts which were bigger than the usual freshwater bangus and have a firm texture do not have the “muddy” aftertaste.

Judging the entries were were renowned personalities including famous culinary great Nora Daza, Philippine Star lifestyle writer Cecil Zamora, CIBO resto’s Margarita Fores, Cook Magazine’s chief editor Nancy Reyes-Lumen; Via Mare’s Glenda Barreto; Bale Dutung’s famous chef Claude Tayag; food writer/designer Ige Ramos, food writer and designer; and DZBB news anchor Raul Virtudazo.

All the entries had to undergo a preliminary screening process by a technical screening committee made up of food and packaging experts from the Food Development Center (FDC), the Dept. of Science & Technology-Packaging Technology Division (DOST-PTD), the Philippine Trade Training Center (PITC) and the San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation (SMYPC).

2nd and 3rd place winners were Bacolod’s Herbanext Inc.’s Sweet Roselle Chips, a lightweight snack made from the sun-dried petals of the tropical roselle plant (Hibiscus sabdariffa) and C.O.P. Pili Sweets & Pastries’ Garlic with Chili variant of its YNut Roasted Pili Nuts.

From us here at GenSan News Online Mag, our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Joel and Patrice Santos, owners of Sta. Cruz Seafood, and the same couple behind the now famous GenSan View Resort!  Joel himself is a great grandson of the city’s founder, Gen. Paulino Santos and a brother of Tito, one of the owners of premier tuna pasalubong favorite, Pacific Seas Seafood Market.

2011 is truly the Year of the Champions for General Santos City!!! Mabuhay ang mga Generals!

One of the highlights of the 2011 Yaman GenSan has never been tried before and that is the reason why a lot of folks are very excited about it.

If we are not mistaken, it is the country’s first COFFEE CONGRESS!

The Coffee Congress will run from July 11 to 12, 2011 at the KCC Convention and Events Centerand will feature speakers who are renowned personalities involved in the coffee industry.  it’s a good resource for entrepreneurs who are interested in venturing into a coffee shop business, coffee growing, coffee processing/marketing/distribution and the like.

The whole exercise is a project of the General Santos City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. under the administration of Prexy Jan Ced and new Executive Director Bench Tacumba.  Hopefully, the Coffee Congress will reach the same stature as the annual National Tuna Congress which is held during the Tuna Festival by the Association of South Cotabato Fisheries and Allied Industries.

Yaman GenSan 2011 Schedule of Activities released

Posted by bariles On June - 21 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The General Santos City Business Month also known as “YAMAN GenSan” is a month-long celebration in the Tuna Capital starting at the last week of June and ending on the 3rd week of July.  Yaman GenSan was established in 2003 under then Mayor Pedro “Jun” Acharon, Jr. and was institutionalized through a Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution.

YAMAN (which directly means “wealth” in Tagalog) is actually an acronym for “Yabong Maliliit na Negosyo!”.

YAMAN GenSan is spearheaded by the GSC Small & Medium Enterprise Development (SMED) Council, a group of industry leaders, fully supported by the local government unit and national government agencies such as DTI, NEDA, DOST, DA, etc.

It is celebrated through a jampacked schedule of activities composed of business fora, entrepreneurship seminars, trainings, trade fairs and exhibits; conferences and business meetings; and entrepreneurship awards which are all envisioned to facilitate access to technology and provide basic information and assistance to current and prospective entrepreneurs, initiate business development and likewise link SMEs to financing resources.

Below is the YAMAN GenSan 2011 logo.

The theme for this year’s GenSan Business Month is “NEGOSYONG LOKAL SA PANANAW NA GLOBAL” which when roughly translated to English means “Local Business in a Global Perspective“.

According to SMED Council Head Tess Pacheco of Planters Bank, more than 20 Training Seminars have been lined in the span for four weeks with most of them requiring no registration fee.

There are Seminars on No Bake Recipes, Food Processing (Food & Vegetables), E-Commerce and E-Marketing (with Digital Filipino’s Ms. Janet Toral), Coco Coir Matting, Advanced ewelry Beadworks, Barcoding, Food Handling & Safety for Small Entrepreneurs, Trends 2012, Understanding Nutrition Label for SMEs, Record Keeping & Accounting for Small Businesses, GMP & HACCP for Food Industry, and Product Pricing & Costing.

A major staple of the Yaman GenSan Schedule of Activities is the annual Yaman GenSan Trade Fair and Exhibit on July 1-3, 2011 at Robinsons Place GenSan. This is participated in by various local and national producers, manufacturers, and exporters all on the lookout for distributors and clients; hotel and food establishments who will hawk their promotional packages and offers plus travel agencies who might give out deals on holidays abroad,

There will be exciting events like Panga Fishtahan, 2011 YB Jobs Fair, Young Entrepreneurs Fair, Competency Assesment and Certification Activities (CAC), the Mayor Darlene Antonino Custodio Wushu 1st Yaman GenSan Mindanao Open, Business Plan Competition and the 1st Sun City Suites Night Fun Run.

For the first time also,  a Coffee Congress and Exhibit will be held from July 11-12, 2011.  Other fora are a Coconut Business Opportunities Forum, an Investment Forum, a Business Leadership Conference, the 3rd Mindanao Halal Forum, the 10th Human Reslurce and Skills Development (HRSD) Summit, Globe Negostar, Entrepreneurs Forum and a Banking & Finance Forum.

Nyoy Volante Live @ Robinsons Al Fresco

Posted by bariles On June - 21 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Following the example of Paolo Santos and Luke Mejares who performed for a capacity crowd at Robinsons Al Fresco a few months back, comes another acoustic performer ready to hold court at GenSan’s most famous after-six destination.

Get ready then for Nyoy Volante this Friday, June 24 in a show to entertain the habitues of Piyesta, Sunset Bistro, Mandarin, Giacomino’s, Big Ben’s, Bixby’s, Grab A Crab, Coffee Club 101 and BluGre Coffee, the so-called Al Fresco estabishments of Robinsons Place GenSan.

Nyoy Volante who was here August of last year at a different mall show (we don’t mind if he comes here monthly though) will start performing his hits at exactly 8pm this Friday.  We just hope his stage won’t be too far from our favorite haunts (Piyesta, Giaco & Big Ben’s) so we can really enjoy listening to his songs up, close and almost personal.

Just imagine this – you drinking a bottle of ice cold light beer under the moonlight with your buddies while being entertained by Nyoy Volante in person right here in your favorite spot in the city?   What more could you ask for?

For enquiries to the Nyoy Volante Show this Friday, June 25, 2011, call Robinsons Place GenSan at (083) 553-3188!
