SM GenSan opens San Miguel Street; unveils new perspective

Posted by bariles On September - 26 - 2011 36 COMMENTS

It was quite sunny last September 12, 2011, Monday when SM City General Santos finally opened to the public the widened and much-improved San Miguel Street, weeks after GenSan News Online Mag first blogged about it here.  Click here to read it.

San Miguel is the street which runs parallel to the frontage of what will soon be the biggest mall in South Central Mindanao.

Both GenSan City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio and Representative Jun Acharon of the First District of South Cotabato led the ceremonies, officially opening the two lane road with a middle island to motorists.  They were assisted by Mr. Hans Sy, eldest son of SM taipan Henry Sy and is currently the President of SM Prime Holdings.

The inauguration of San Miguel Street was also the occasion for media personnel from Davao City and GenSan to field Mr. Hans Sy with questions pertaining to their foray into South Central Mindanao.  When asked with the question, “Why GenSan?”, Mr. Sy answered, “Because this city has a local government which is very consistent and strict with its policies and we like working with them.  We will be here for the long haul.”

Dolefil and Lead.Ph launch 5-year Tree-Planting Program

Posted by bariles On September - 23 - 2011 6 COMMENTS

The cold early morning drizzle on September 18, 2011 could not dampen the high spirits of  200 Dolefil employees and guests as they gathered for what is to be a momentous Ceremonial Tree Planting Activity. Held at a gully in Purok Dignadice, Poblacion, Polomolok, South Cotabato, the activity strengthened the record of the multinational food company’s record (which just won an award from the Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines) as being an industry leader in both its environmental practices or in its labor relations.

Check out our story on Dolefil’s latest award by Clicking Here.

The tree planting event is LEAD.PH’s (Labor Employees Association of Dolefil.Polomolok Hourlies) expression of its commitment and support to the company’s CSSR (Corporate Sustainability and Social Responsibility) initiatives as reflected in the Green Clause of the said union’s CBA. LEAD.PH is the official bargaining agent of Polomolok-based hourly-paid employees of Dolefil.

"A LEAD.PH MEMBER ASSISTS DOLEFIL VP AND MANAGING DIRECTOR SIMON DENYE PLANT HIS BAMBOO SEEDLING DURING THEIR CEREMONIAL TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2011 IN POLOMOLOK."

Atty. Mel Hernandez, Dolefil HR Division Director, emphasized the activity’s importance on his message, “Dolefil pioneered the inclusion of a Green Clause in its CBA, a program that actively supports environmental protection and welfare.” Furthermore, Atty. Hernandez even encouraged the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to make the Green Clause a standard provision to be adopted by unions in the Philippines in their respective CBAs, as a support to President Benigno Aquino’s National Greening Program.

"COMMITMENT TO PRODUCTIVE PARTNERSHIP. PHOTO SHOWS MR. SIMON DENYE (3RD FROM LEFT) WITH LEAD.PH PRESIDENT FRANCIS GALES (RIGHTMOST) AND (L-R) PROVINCIAL ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT OFFICER RAMON PONCE DE LEON, ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT BUREAU REGION XII DIRECTOR DATU TUNKO SAIKOL."

Officers from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), DOLE, delegates from the Local Government Unit of Polomolok, Municipal Councilors, Barangay Officials, and representatives from the company’s service providers and business partners all took part in the tree planting activity.

1,100 seedlings planted in the Ceremonial Tree Planting activity of Dolefil and LEAD.PH last Sept. 18, 2011 is a realization of the union’s Green Clause in the CBA.

Dolefil VP and Managing Director Mr. Simon Denye expressed his gratitude to the participants and recognized the initiative, effort and unity of all the individuals involved in the said successful program.

In its launching alone, 1,100 bamboo seedlings were planted by union members and the community. “What makes this tree planting program distinct is that by choosing bamboo as its planting material, it will be able to provide additional means of livelihood to the members of the community,” Mahintana Foundation, Inc.’s Executive Director Martiniano “Dodoy” Magdolot remarked during his tree planting demo. Members of the community will benefit from the purchase of the seedlings and from the use of mature bamboos as raw materials for bahay kubo and furniture.

100 LEAD.PH MEMBERS PLANT TEN BAMBOO SEEDLINGS EACH, A REALIZATION OF THE GREEN CLAUSE OF THE UNION'S CBA".

Unlike other one-time activities, this project will continue every other Sunday. Each of the 100 LEAD.PH members per batch is to plant and grow ten seedlings. LEAD.PH’s Gully Tree Planting will run for the entire lifetime of the CBA (5 years), involving almost 4,000 union members, and will result to at least 200,000 planted bamboos, providing stable waterways and livelihood to the community. “I am proud that through the Green Clause provision of the CBA between Dolefil and LEAD.PH, we have implemented and launched this Ceremonial Tree Planting. Kini ang pinakauna nga CBA Green Clause sa tibuok Pilipinas! CBA na makakalikasan!” stated Francis Gales, LEAD.PH President.

Likewise, the activity is a manifestation of Dolefil and LEAD.PH’s commitment to productive partnership, proving that with a common vision and goal, a company leads by example and through accomplishments. Dolefil indeed is making things happen.

Q Restaurant and Bar now serves LUNCH!

Posted by bariles On September - 22 - 2011 2 COMMENTS

Q Bar has always been known to be a party place for nocturnals ever since it opened more than a year ago.  It has served as GenSan’s must-visit bar at weekend nights and its themed-parties have attracted partiphiles from all over the region and even as far as Davao.  Q Bar is almost always teeming with GenSan’s young, uppity crowd attracted like moths to its modern, transic dance music provided by a dynamic team of deejays on weekends and by acoustic and blues artists on weekday evenings.

Currently though, Q Restaurant and Bar, which is it’s real name is trying to attract another market, other than its after six habitues.  It has started serving lunch and boy, for sure, they will be soon be the toast of GenSan’s noon time crowd once news about it goes viral!

One must-try specialty of Q Restaurant and Bar is its endless chicken! Aside from that, it serves a whole lot of Pinoy, Oriental and Western cuisine which are very affordable by GenSan standards.

One of the problems of the “generals” is eating out during lunch because of limited choice.

With Q Restaurant and Bar opening its doors from 11am to 2pm at Sun City Complex, that will never be a quandrary again.

You may call Q Restaurant and Bar and order their Greaseless Fried Chicken or Angus Steaks in advanced by calling them at (083) 554-3202.

The Shamcey Grand Homecoming: The Universe is in GenSan (Photos from the Motorcade)

Posted by bariles On September - 20 - 2011 11 COMMENTS

GenSan News Online is sharing the pictures which Bariles took this morning of September 20, 2011, as part of the group who welcomed Miss Universe 3rd Runner-up winner Shamcey Supsup at the General Santos City International Airport when she arrived via a private plane.

Bariles was also able to climb aboard a flower-bedecked float that took Miss Shamcey on a queen’s motorcade from the airport and through the major thoroughfares of her hometown.

"SHAMCEY AT THE TARMAC OF THE GENSAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. BEHIND HER IS GENSAN MAYOR DARLENE ANTONINO-CUSTODIO."

Along with them were Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio, Congressman Jun Acharon, Shamcey’s parents, Mr. Gines Enriquez of Uniprom and a lady who’s from Bb. Pilipinas Charities and Miss Eliza Antonino, Chief of Staff of Secretary Mar Roxas, who lent the private jet of their family for the beauty queen’s homecoming.

"SHAMCEY ABOARD HER SIMPLE FLOAT ADORNED WITH FLOWERS, AS IT WAS LEAVING THE GENSAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT."

It was the longest two-hour motorcade that Congressman Acharon and Mayor Darlene ever experienced and according to the former, “It’s the biggest in terms of crowd density and participation of the generals who lined up the road and infront of their establishments, from the airport and down to the Oval Covered Court where it ended.” The good congressman has been present in almost all the motorcades that the city afforded to 8-Division Boxing Champ and now Congressman Manny Pacquiao.  He later reiterated that attendance records have been broken by Shamcey’s homecoming to some members of the media.

"QUEEN SHAMCEY SURVEYING THE PEOPLE BELOW FROM HER FLOAT AS IT LEAVES THE GENSAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:

Meanwhile here are some of the pictures Bariles took!  Indeed, the generals love their queen and they made sure that they showed it by coming out in droves for her, screaming like banshees, waving flaglets and bannerettes, throwing flowers, trinkets and small gifts, and beaming with pride and admiration at their Queen as she passed by!

Miss Shamcey, you may have missed that crown by a few notches… but you will always be the Miss Universe in the hearts of the generals!

3K Run for Clean Coasts!

Posted by bariles On September - 15 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The Philippine National Police Office of General Santos City is at it again!

As part of its continuing TAKBO GENSAN series under its energetic and hunky chief, PNP City Director PSSupt. Cedrick Train, the country’s Best City Police Office is again inviting everyone to another marathon or fun run.  This time, it will be be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 in support of the 26th International Coastal Clean-Up Day!

They have dubbed it “3K for Clean Coasts“.

For a measly sum of P25 for kids and P50 for adults, interested runners may register at the PNP Office at the Camp Fermin Lira Headquarters on or before Saturday.

Participants are then advised to be at the Assembly Place at the PNP Office Grounds at the same camp before 5:00 AM.  The marathon will start at exactly 5:00am.

The 3-kilometer route will end at the Barangay Bula Coral Reef, which suggests a place at the coastal area there.

Bariles hopes to join this one although he can only brisk walk.  What’s important is that finally, he will be joining his first ever 3K Marathon after a looooooong time.
