Everything’s all set for Blogfest Soccsksargen 2.0!

Posted by bariles On November - 24 - 2011 6 COMMENTS

It’s less than 40 hours before the biggest eyeball of bloggers and online writers/publishers in Mindanao so you could just imagine how jittery we are, being the organizers of Blogfest Soccsksargen 2.0.

It’s been a short 3 months of organizing and planning and on Saturday, November 26, 2011, people will have a chance to find out if we made the right decision in following up the first Blogfest which we conducted almost a year ago in December 2010.

We are certain however that judging from the # of bloggers who registered online coming from all over the island of Mindanao, we are in for a full house. We were only planning to accept 100 registrants but had to re-open the sign-up for a couple of times due to numerous requests and pleas from late-comers (sooo Pinoy).

We are very grateful to the generous personalities who will be sharing their insights based on the simple yet timely theme “The Emergence of Blogs & Social Media“. They could have given us the run-around when we first invited them but no. Ever so graciously, they immediately accepted the offer to meet and hobnob with the bloggers of Soccksargen or South Central Mindanao and her neighbors. Until now, we could hardly believe our luck.

Where else then can you find these internet stalwarts and social media experts in one roof: Multiply Phils Country Manager Jack Madrid, essayist and blogger Undersecretary Manuel L. Quezon III, Video Blogger and TV/Commercial Director Mae Paner aka Juana Change, GMA News & Public Affairs Anchor/Producer Raffy Tima, Mindanao-based American internet entrepreneur Bob Martin, Techie Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio of GenSan, Google Asia-Pacific‘s Aileen Apolo-de Jesus, Advocacy Blogger Flow Galindez of ABS-CBN, Superstar Tech Blogger Abe Olandres and Cynthia Cook, Deputy Press Attache of the US Embassy?

Dito lang sa Blogfest Soccsksargen 2.0 ng GenSan!   (Get to know more about them by checking out the official BlogfestSox website.)

We couldn’t have pulled it off however without the assistance of our Co-Presentors, local companies and CSR leader Dolefil, Sagittarius Mines Incorporated and the ever-supportive SMART. Not to mention the help being extended by Gold Sponsors AirPhil Express, ACLC College, the GSC Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the local government of General Santos City, and the Department of Trade & Industry -12, Official Hotel SunCity Suites and Sarangani Highlands.

So all those who registered already at the SoxBloggers Site and are getting ready for Mindanao’s Funnest Eyeball of Bloggers, we are proud to give you the Official Programme of the Blogfest Soccsksargen 2.0.

We are encouraging the delegates to bring their laptops and tablets and mobiles.  SunCity Suites, the Blogfest Sox 2.0 venue will be equipped with FREE WI-FI powered of course by SMART.

By the way, we are raffling off a Round-Trip Ticket to any Philippine destination courtesy of AirPhil Express at the Blogfest Grand Raffle Draw.

Good luck bloggers and kita-kits sa GenSan for the Blogfest Soccsksargen 2.0!  For more info, log on to www.Blogfestsox.com.

Following the Blogfest Sox 2.0 is the strictly-invitational glamorous Awards Night of the Philippine Blog Awards for Mindanao 2011 at the East Asia Royale Hotel starting at 7:00pm.  If you are a nominee or an invitee, please make sure to be in your best SMART CASUALS.

GenSan’s Teatro Ambahon is Showtime weekly winner!

Posted by bariles On November - 23 - 2011 12 COMMENTS

Congratulations to General Santos City very own contemporary dance group, Teatro Ambahanon who impressed the judges at Showtime, ABS-CBN’s daily talent show to let them win the daily and weekly finals last week (November 14-19, 2011).

Represented by the amazing trio, Julius Lagare, Roy Misoles and Beauty Balaga,  Teatro Ambahanon is the resident dance and theater company of the Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges. RMMCTA is hailed as the Most Outstanding Young Contemporary Dance and Theater Companies of the Philippines of the Mindanao Modern Dance Competition. It’s one of Gensan’ pride, having represented the Philippines in an international contemporary dance festival in Fukuoka, Japan.

Lagare, who also choreographed the piece was adjudged as the Grand Prix winner of the Wifi Body-Cultural Center of the Philippines-Japan Foundation New Choreographer’s Competition in 2008.  Roy Misoles competed as performer in “Portia”, the winning piece in the Mindanao ModernDance Competition. Beauty is a new member of the internationally renown dance company.

Teatro Ambahanon is a laboratory school for contemporary dance. The company has trained many of Gensan’s emerging talents in dance in cluding XB Gensan and the Gensan Contortionists.

By the way, Teatro Ambahanon’s Artistic Director Bing Carino is National Committee on Cultural Education of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.  He and c0-Artistic Director Egai Cadiente have teamed up in numerous instances to give the generals world-class shows and events in General Santos City.

World class talents as only GenSan can produce!!!

Meanwhile enjoy Teatro Ambahanon’s jaw-dropping performance at SHOWTIME in the video below!

Watch out for KCC’s Veranza Mall!

Posted by bariles On November - 22 - 2011 51 COMMENTS

Through their newly redesigned official website, KCC Malls unveiled their plans for an even bigger expansion in 2012!

Soon to dominate the skyline of General Santos City is their VERANZA MALL, envisioned to be the Tuna Capital’s first GREEN SHOPPING MALL!

Check out the Veranza Mall perspectives below. The new mall which sounds like “Abreeza” will occupy the old Marfin Tan property across the KCC Mall of Gensan now being used as car park.  It extends up to KCC’s lot behind the car park’s perimeter fence.

Here is the Veranza Mall Top View…

Now take a look at another picture of the Veranza Mall perspective..

From the looks of it, Veranza Mall will be full of greens – plants, trees and perhaps fountains, waterfalls and other water elements to live up to the owners’ plans of making it distinctively South Central Mindanao’s first-ever GREEN MALL.  It will connect the existing KCC Mall of GenSan to the new structures via a skybridge.  According to the KCC website, Veranza will open in November 2012.

And yes, Veranza Mall will also operate a first-class hotel (check out the first picture’s two tall buildings) to augment its existing Convention Center, aside from an al fresco dining strip and world class restaurants .  Very much similar to Robinsons Place GenSan’s plan to also open a hotel beside it.

That leaves the soon-to-open SM City General Santos and expanding Gaisano Mall of GenSan without a hotel to call their own.  But does GenSan really need and sustain all these in the long run?

One thing for sure though, this grand battle of the supermalls in GenSan will only redound to the benefit of the generals and to the city’s new reputation as South Central Mindanao’s SHOPPING MECCA.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Sarangani Province’s Munato Festival 2011 is here!

Posted by bariles On November - 22 - 2011 4 COMMENTS

We would like to greet our neighboring province, Sarangani on the occasion of their 19th Foundation Anniversary!

Sarangani Province which comprises the municipalities of Alabel, Glan, Malapatan, Malungon, Maasim, Kiamba and Maitum is commemorating the event with the 9th Munato Festival from November 24 -27, 2011.

Sarangani Governor Migs Dominguez and Vice-Governor Steve Solon have promised a more festive Munato Festival celebration this year.  Reports have reached us that Congressman Manny Pacquiao is bringing in GMA Kapuso artists during the festival.  In fact, Dingdong Dantes will be guesting at the Pearl of Sarangani Pageant Night on November 26, 2011.

It seems that their alliance are really doing wonders for the Sarangans!

10,000 Sky Lanterns to light up GenSan skies @ 8th People’s Congress

Posted by bariles On November - 15 - 2011 7 COMMENTS

This is one for the record books which should not be missed!

Tomorrow night, November 16, 2011, in celebration of the 8th People’s Congress which gathers all the members of the FRAME Program of the local government of General Santos City to celebrate and fellowship, something magical will happen!

For the first time ever in the country, 10,000 SKY LANTERNS will be released by the members themselves in an event that showcases the strength and impact of the program in many facets at the General Santos City Oval Plaza.

Be there to witness this historic event!

"GENSAN CITY MAYOR DARLENE CUSTODIO AND HER HUSBAND BENJIE WAIT FOR THEIR SKY LANTERN TO FLOAT DURING THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE TUNA FESTIVAL 2010. MULTIPLY THIS 10,000 TIMES AND YOU GET THE PICTURE OF WHAT HAPPENS AT THE 8TH PEOPLE'S CONGRESS."

The FRAME Program:

The “Family Resource Allocation Management and Enhancement” (FRAME) Program is basically a community and value-based capability building program aimed at empowering communities and constituents to socio-economic engagements and self-help livelihood opportunities. It is a special program of the Local Government of General Santos as an anti-poverty strategy.

Generally, FRAME Program is a mass-based savings system where people and community own a project which operates on trust, love, cooperation and mutual help. Likewise, it promotes family values, spirituality, moral recovery and strengthening positive virtues rather than promoting the dole-out and poverty mentality of Filipinos.

FRAME Program has been existing for more than eight years since its inception in year 2003 during the time of then mayor and now Congressman Jun Acharon. It evolved from a pilot savings program at the Field Operations Division of the City Social Welfare and Development Office to a mass-based savings system now existing in 26 barangays that mobilized more than forty thousand members to date under the leadership of Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio.

“8th People’s Congress Theme:  RE-IMAGINE. RE-INVENT. RESPOND. | God-given Power Unframed.”:

The chosen theme is essentially a statement of conviction commanding the human being to re-imagine possibilities, re-invent approaches and strategies, and respond to the changing time’s challenges.

In today’s unpredictable times and fast-paced evolution, all that the individual can do is prepare for a volatile future. Man is after all born and equipped with innovativeness, ingenuity, virtues and values basic in him. To respond to the demands of contemporary times, man has to harness his basic faculties. Individuals, communities, and families have to adapt to economic, cultural, political, environmental, and sociological landscapes that change its face by the tick of the clock.

There is so much that man can do if he unleashes the human potential he is endowed with. There are no boundaries to what the human spirit can achieve. There is no framing of his capabilities which are God-given.

The theme basically sends a message that empowering one’s self starts from rediscovering his basic human strengths – the goodness and spirit that lies within every soul. These and all, are what this year’s congress aims for the FRAME members to imbibe.

Through time, FRAME is already beyond a social program. It has become a dynamic platform where positive transformation unfolds.

VISUAL THEME AND LOGO:

The visual rendering of a human figure carrying a lighted torch is a declaration of man’s energy to live with meaning, a celebration of the gift of life. Unafraid by darkness of turbulent times, he carries a burning passion to illumine and influence the world.

The colors Red, Orange and Yellow are the colors of a flame. These colors translate the vibrancy of the event, hence used in tshirts, promo materials, and other visual elements.

The flood of flame colors is in itself a portrayal of illumination, an intense visual statement that FRAME as a program is a medium that lights and illuminates. It thus, should radiate and effect positive influences.

Watch the Pacquiao-Marquez III Fight FREE Live Broadcast in GenSan

    Posted by bariles On November - 11 - 2011 3 COMMENTS

Generals who do not have the money to shell out for pay per view live broadcast  or its FREE LIVE STREAMING on the internet of the upcoming Pacquiao-Marquez III Fight on Sunday, November 13, 2011 need not fret anymore!

For the umpteenth time, the local government of General Santos City is offering a FREE LIVE BROADCAST of the Pacquiao-Marquez III fight at the GenSan Gym in Barangay Lagao.

They just need to score a ticket similar to the one below…

The City Mayor’s office is once again paying Solar Sports for the rights to air the fight LIVE via their Pay-per-view access as its commitment to the people of General Santos.

Years back, the broadcast fee was only P50,000.  The latest bout that Sarangani Congressman Pacquiao won which was the Pacquiao-Clottey Fight was worth P300,000 already!

Now, based on Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio‘s revealation, the city government is being billed P400,000 to show the FREE LIVE Broadcast of the Pacquiao-Morales III fight to Manny’s townmates!

About 7,000 tickets were distributed to the city’s 26 barangays starting this morning.

For those who were given these tickets to watch the FREE Live Broadcast of the Pacquiao-Marquez III fight at the GenSan Gym, here are some reminders:

    1. The gates of the GenSan gymnasium will open as early as 7:00am.
    2. Entrance to the gym will be on a first come-first served basis.
    3. Drinks, food, firearms, pointed and bladed weapons are not allowed inside GenSan gym.
    4. If there is still space inside the gym for more spectators after 9:30am, those without tickets may be allowed inside.

Two huge flat-screened television sets will be provided at the gym’s lobbies to air the Pacquiao-Marquez III fight for those who will not be able to get inside.  This is of course much better than the signals of the Pacquiao-Marquez III FIGHT FREE LIVE STREAMING sites over the internet.

Task Force Champ has been designated by Mayor Darlene Custodio to oversee the peaceful and orderly conduct of this Pacquiao-Marquez III FREE Live Broadcast.

This includes members of the PNP office, the Joint Task Force GenSan, the Civil Security Unit of the local government, Red Cross, City Hospital, Traffic Management Office, the City Sports Development Office, the General Services Office and the City Engineering Office and the City Mayor’s Office.

Dolefil and its awesome Chairs-for-Trees Program

    Posted by bariles On November - 10 - 2011 4 COMMENTS

Bariles and the rest of the Soccsksargen Bloggers had the good luck to check out a Corporate Social Responsibility project of  top multinational food producer and Soccsksargen’s #1 employer, Dolefil, up close and personal one weekend.

This is their Chairs-for-Trees Program which was started in 2003.

At that time, because of higher school enrollment and increased material fees, about 20-50 percent of students were without classroom desks and chairs.

To help solve this glaring problem, Dolefil which just recently launched its 5-year Greening Program (click here), joined the Chairs-for-Trees (CFT) Program and partnered with Mahintana Foundation and Mt. Matutum Federation of Marginal Farmers Association.  They did so by donating their used wooden pallets to the program and recycling them into the much-needed desks-chairs.

So, for over eight years now, Dolefil and the program have worked to increase the numbers of desk-and-chair sets, as well as provide both active and responsive assistance to Southern Mindanao communities in the Soccsksargen region.

"HERE ARE SOME OF THE USED AND OLD WOODEN PALLETS OF DOLEFIL AT THE MAHINTANA FOUNDATION COMPOUND IN CANNERY, POLOMOLOK"

Initially, instead of disposing them, these pallets are sent over by Dolefil to the nearby Unified Engineering and Manpower Services Multi-Purpose Cooperative (UEMSMC) compound at the Cannery Road in Polomolok, South Cotabato where they are disassembled.  Then a group of carpenters gather and clean the usable planks and start converting them into chairs.

A CARPENTER DRILLS HOLES INTO THESE RECYCLED PARTS OF THE USED WOODEN PALLETS OF DOLEFIL.

Under the watchful eye of a quality control staff, the skillful hands of UEMSMC’s carpenters eventually produce sturdy and good quality kiddie chairs.

"A NEWLY-FINISHED KIDDIE CHAIR READY FOR PAINTING"

These finished chairs are then delivered to another site within the Cannery area where they are spray painted in Dolefil’s corporate colors.

"THE PAINTED CHAIRS OF DOLEFIL'S CHAIRS FOR TREES PROGRAM READY FOR DISTRIBUTION TO RECIPIENT SCHOOLS IN THE REGION"

Each chair is estimated to cost P263.75, according to Gwynee Ebol, Dolefil’s Communication Superintendent.  For every chair that is donated to a recipient school, the school plants 26 trees or one tree for every P10.00 worth of assistance received.

"HAPPY & COMFY PUPILS OF UPPER KLINAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THE CHAIRS FROM DOLEFIL:

Another requirement is that these planted trees must have an 80% survival rate or else their school is taken out of the program and are no longer qualified to receive more chairs in the future.

"SCHOOL CHILDREN PLANTING A TREE TO RECIPROCATE EVERY P10 WORTH OF ASSISTANCE FROM DOLEFIL"

Dolefil supplies the seedlings and tree saplings for the schools which they procure from another local cooperative  called the Mt. Matutum Federation of Marginal Farmers Association. Everyday, their women members are responsible for propagating the seedlings so they are ready for use in plant nurseries and greenhouses throughout the community.

"A WOMAN FARMER WATERS THE TREE SAPLINGS FOR DOLEFIL'S CHAIRS FOR TREES PROGRAM"

At least 700,000 seedlings of various forest and fruit trees have been planted and grown by beneficiaries in the South Central Mindanao area under the Chairs-for-Trees program. The thousands of donations and seedlings propagated for the reforestation component of the project have likewise been a steady source of livelihood for the cooperatives’ members, thus making their groups evolve into viable business partners for their respective communities.

In general, Dolefil, through all these, enabled Chairs-for-Trees to address important concerns, such as education, environment (recycling and reforestation), livelihood generation and organizational development which definitely is an awesome endeavor of the company’s laudable Corporate Social Responsibility Program.

4th Blogoversary Special IV: The GenSan News Online Mag Slogan Contest (updated)

    Posted by bariles On November - 8 - 2011 11 COMMENTS

When I came out with my first blog post exactly four years ago today under the blog name, Bariles Republic, we adapted the phrase, “An Idiot’s Guide to GenSan” as our official slogan.

It was supposedly a “tongue-in-cheek” description about the blog but some quarters who didn’t have a sense of humor didn’t like it.  Still, I persisted and up to now, I still use it, although sparingly, to describe what is now known as GenSan News Online Mag.

However, now that this blog is celebrating its 4th blogoversary exactly today, November 8, 2011, I feel it is time to come out with something new – a better and more apt slogan to describe GenSantos.com.

And so with that, I am launching the last of my 4th Blogoversary Special Series – the “NAME A SLOGAN FOR GENSANTOS.COM CONTEST!”

    Here are the contest rules:

    1. Like our Facebook Fanpage (facebook.com/GenSanNews) which you can access by CLICKING HERE.
    2. Write your entry to the “NAME A SLOGAN FOR GENSANTOS.COM CONTEST” at the Facebook Fan Page via an INDIVIDUAL STATUS UPDATE.
    3. Come back to this page and write this sentence on the RESPONSE BOX below:  ”I just wrote my entry at the GenSan News Online Mag Facebook Page.
    4. Deadline for submission of entries is Friday, November 11, 2011 at 11:00pm (11:00pm on 11/11/11).
    5. Winners will be announced on a separate blog post immediately after.
    6. The decision of a set of judges commissioned to rate the entries will be final.
    7. The winning slogan entry will be used by GenSantos.com as its new official slogan thereon.

    Here are the prizes:

    • GOLD AWARD – Grand Winning Entry Prizes:

      • ONE Jollibee Gift Certificate from Jollibee RD Plaza and Gaisano branches.

Good luck to everyone and may be the best slogan win!  Thanks to Multimedia Telephony Inc, Robinsons Place GenSan, Jollibee RD Plaza/Gaisano, KCC Mall of GenSan, InkPossible Designs & Prints and SuperMorgy.com.

    UPDATE:  CONTEST RESULTS…

Nobody from among the seven entries won the Gold and Silver Awards.  I and the rest of the judges feel that no one slogan was able to capture the real essense of GenSan News Online Mag.

We have however chosen two entries as winners of the Bronze Awards.  Here they are:

    • June Raye Prudente:  ”THE SPLASHING NEWS MAG OF GENERAL SANTOS”
    • Eunice Aclan:  ”THE WORLD’S WINDOW TO MAGANDANG GENSAN”
