SM all-digital Cinemas offer more than the usual

Together with the Grand Opening of  SM City GenSan on August 10, 2012 is the unveiling of their four all-digital SM Cinemas!

What basically is a DIGITAL CINEMA or DIGITAL THEATER?  Here are some facts from the SM Cinema website.

SM Cinema  or the SM Digital Theater is the new approach to enjoy movies. It is a set of equipment consisting of a digital camera projector, sound system and server as defined by the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI). The digitized movie is stored by a computer/server which “serves” it to a digital projector for each screening of the movie.

Difference of SM Digital Theaters from 35mm theaters:

Projector system: SM Digital Theater uses a hard drive wherein the digital copy of the movie is downloaded and is directly projected to the screen. This digital system shows crisp, clearer, and brighter, without scratches and lapses while showing the movie. It is also capable of showing 3D movies. While a 35mm cinema still uses the 35mm celluloid film which is prone to seeing scratches and lapses while viewing the movie.

Sound: The SM Digital Theater uses the state-of-the-art Dolby Digital sound system which magnificently completes the unsurpassed total movie experience. 35 mm cinemas still uses the conventional 5.1 sound system which disperses sound through many speakers making it nearly impossible to locate the origin of the sound.

Aside from being all-digital which can easily be converted into a 3D-abled theaters in the near future (it can only show 2D movies as of the moment), SM Digital Cinemas will be the first in GenSan to push for HASSLE-FREE and STRESS-FREE MOVIEGOING by offering, among others, Turnstile Access System and Barcode Systems.

TURNSTILE ACCESS SYSTEM

The turnstile access system, which allows one person to pass at a time is an innovation which SM Cinema is the first to introduce. It is similar to the system used in the MRT and LRT, which will give comfort and ease to their patrons while waiting in line.  To gain access to their next movie, they just have to use their SM Cinema Cineaccess card.

Another innovation of SM for stress-free moviewatching is the…

BCODE system.

BCODE is a secure and encrypted message that can be scanned easily. Anybody familiar with a text message will be instantly comfortable with a BCODE. It can be scanned via the BCODE machine located in all SM Cinema branches, whether it is printed or shown via SMS.

ONLINE TICKET PURCHASE:

And to save time, you don’t have to fall in line anymore, with SM Cinema GenSan, just log on to smcinema.com and purchase your tickets online. Just use your printed ticket or BCODE to go directly to your cinema of choice.

E-PLUS CARD:

Likewise, SM Cinema e-PLUS Card is the most convenient access to the movies.  It’s a prepaid card that is reloadable with P500 and P1000 load denominations.  You can get free snacks every time you load up.  Reloading is available at SM Cinema ticketbooths and soon online, as well as other reloading facilities.

The card is your perfect entertainment gift-card.  It can be customized to be used as a corporate give-away for employee driven programs, sales incentives, and product bundling promotions, or simply as a gift to family members and friends.  Moreover, you can use your e-PLUS card to earn reward points every time you watch a movie, and soon, when you purchase at any snacktime outlets.

PRIVATE EVENT PLACE:

And one more thing, SM Cinema GenSan is not your usual movie house! It is actually the perfect place for your next event!

SM Cinema GenSan boasts a dazzling location and can accommodate multiple types of functions beautifully – from seminars/conferences/presentations on the big screen – to private movie screenings; SM haS a built in stage to fit any occasion.

Once it opens, it will have the largest seating capacity in General Santos City.

Here is the seating capacity of each of the four SM GenSan Cinemas:

Cinema 1 – 530 seats
Cinemas 2,3 and 4 – 308 seats

SM Cinema 1 can accommodate as much as 550 guests, and all four well have built in stages for any type of event you can think of.

Be it a private film showing, a conference, examination reviews, fund raising events, or  to add innovative twist on your next board meeting, SM Cinema’s Team can–without a doubt—can make it happen!

As SM says, WE’VE GOT IT ALL FOR YOU!

BLOCKBUSTER MOVIES ON OPENING WEEK:

For their initial salvo, SM Cinemas will be showing the following movies:

OPENING DAY TREAT:

For their opening day, SM Cinema GenSan has prepared a treat for their patrons…

The first 1,000 moviegoers on August 10 will get exciting SM Cinema gift items whether they watch Bourne Legacy, Brave, The Ring 3 or Step Up 2D.

And with regard to the movie The Ring 3, only SM Cinema will be showing this, along with future cinexclusive movies

The Ticket prices of an SM Cinema GenSan movie is only Php 111.00, by the way! That’s dirt cheap!!!

SNACKBAR:

The SM Cinema GenSan Snackbar offers a wide array of refreshments.  It sells Coca-Cola products and drinks such as Minute Maid and Releaf.   It also offers the staple popcorn, which comes in a variety of flavors.  They  also serve hotdogs and burgers.

The even better news is that SM Cinemas GenSan allow outside food to be brought in, except for rice meals and meals with sauces or gravy.  They do not allow drinks in cans however.

With all these in place, it will be just a matter of time when the generals will once more get into the habit of watching movies on the widescreen.

Wanna bet?
