Gensan Carinderia Crawl: Puwesto Grill

One of the most pleasing discoveries I made while on my eternal search for the delicious and most affordable food in Gensan is this nondescript carinderia or eatery that is so bare except for the usual plastic tables and monobloc chairs and its griller.  There is no flooring, just the ground underneath and galvanized iron as roof.  The name? Puwesto Grill.

PUWESTO GRILL

PUWESTO GRILL’S SIMPLE GRILLER

Puwesto Gril serves a very simple menu, starting with fish, mostly the localy named salmon-salmon (their most requested variety), barileson, tilapia, budburon, pandawan and tuna which you can select still fresh and raw and have it grilled and basted with their special marinade. (Click on each photo below for a bigger view.)

From its small kitchen on the right side of the dining area, Puwesto’s cooks can whip out a heavenly flavored tinolang imbao and tinolang tuna on the side too.

Its eggplant and okra salad however is its bestseller and is best served when poured with Puwesto Grill’s bottled dayok or fermented fish entrails.  Sarap!

Puesto Grill doesn’t even have a signboard yet but according to its goodlooking owner, Dondon Jamora, it’s coming soon.

One thing that keeps me going back there are its prices.  Your P100 here will go a long way.  It’s a good alternative to the carinderias and eateries of Tiongson Arcade whose prices have become prohibitive for the locals already.

Wait! There’s more. Puwesto Grill’s cook can also cook your salmon ala PAKSIW NA ULO or prepare it ala KINILAW.  And guess what?  They really taste sooooo good!

Sometime during the International Billiards Competition here, I even saw the likes of Efren “Bata” Reyes, Django Bustamante and other national players eating here.  Just like me, they sure must have loved Puwesto Grill’s delicious and very affordable servings of freshly caught fish.
