Yellow Bus, Husky Bus and Holiday Bus Lines will soon be providing “breastfeeding seats” in their buses.

This is in view of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 12 under Chairperson Darlene Antonino Custodio, City Mayor of General Santos City, passing a resolution last year “urging the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 12 to issue a directive requiring all bus operators in Region 12 to designate a breastfeeding seat/corner inside buses.”

The RDC-12 Social Development Committee has recommended that the three bus operators apportion the “third seat by the window” of their buses as breastfeeding stations.

On their end, LTFRB XII, in response to the resolution, issued a directive to bus operators in the region enjoining their compliance.

PHOTO COURTESY OF MRSDEWEES9'S FLICKR PHOTOSTREAM

The directive orders bus operators to put a “signage” on these designated seats so that they will be exclusively “occupied by the breastfeeding mothers.”

This development will create a “mother-baby friendly ride,” favorable for both since it provides “privacy” for breastfeeding mothers to feed their babies properly.

All this is in line with the “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009” (Republic Act 10028) which mandates that “lactation stations” be put up in all private institutions and government agencies.

Tax incentives will be given to the Big Three Bus Operators once they comply with the law, along with other institutions which provide the same, according to the law.

In addition, RA 10028 also mandates all health and non-health facilities, establishments or institutions to assign not only lactation stations. They also need to provide appropriate facilities such as lavatory for hand washing, refrigeration for storing breast milk, electrical outlets for breast pumps, a small table; and comfortable seats for working lactating mothers.

RA 10028 also apportions 40 minutes for every 8-hour working period for nursing employees to “express milk” in addition to the regular meal time-off. – from a report by CT Apelacio of Philippine Information Agency

General Santos City showed the most significant increase in membership figures of Pag-IBIG compared to three other cities in Southern Mindanao.

According to Pag-IBIG Fund’s Vice-President for Southern Mindanao, Jose W. Banzon, this figure is directly related to the number of business enterprises existing in any specific area.

A PIA report says, “General Santos City actually increased its membership over the same period, from 122,302 in 2010 to 143,383 last year.”

This is a 17.24% increase, the largest growth among the four major cities, which include Davao, Kidapawan and Tagum.

Tagum City is next with a 16.72-percent growth from 101,953 to 118,997 members. Davao City is third, with 256,649 members, an 11.65-percent increase from 229,876. Kidapawan posted the smallest growth at 5.86-percent growth, from 88,826 to 94,032 members.
The growth in General Santos is likely to increase further as SM City opens its largest shopping mall in Mindanao in that city in 2012.

In terms of membership contribution to the Pag-IBIG Fund last year, Davao City posted the largest at P644.002 million (up by 13.79% than in 2010), followed by General Santos City at P316.593 million (20% more than in 2010).

Furthermore, the PIA report states: “Total membership has already breached the half-million mark (in Southern Mindanao), with 613,061 members as of December this year, 12.91 percent higher than the previous year. This number also meant an increase in contribution to P1.622 billion for the whole of 2010.”

In conclusion, the report goes on to say, “The growth in General Santos is likely to increase further as SM City opens its largest shopping mall in Mindanao in that city in 2012. The Gaisano Mall has also expanded its operation with an additional building to boost its space.”

All these mean that General Santos City is poised for a tremendous growth in housing soon enough and with the influx of investments in the city, expect the Tuna Capital’s membership and membership contribution in Pag-IBIG to continue skyrocketing upwards.

WATCH OUT for more subdivisions to crop up soon at the Home of the Champions!

I should have included this in my predictions for 2012!

Effective March 22, 2012, AirPhil Express will be flying passengers out of the General Santos City International Airport to new destinations Cebu and Iloilo Cities!

According to their official website, the Cebu-GenSan-Cebu and GenSan-Iloilo-GenSan flights of AirPhil Express will be available 3x a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays initially.

Here then are AirPhil Express flight schedules to these new areas:

GenSan – Iloilo (Flight 2P 393):

Depart GenSan – 10:10 AM

Arrive Iloilo – 11:30 AM

Iloilo – GenSan (Flight 2P 394)

Depart Iloilo – 12:00 PM

Arrive GenSan – 1:20 PM

Cebu – GenSan (Flight 2P 389)

Depart Cebu – 8:30 AM

Arrive GenSan – 9:40 AM

GenSan – Cebu (Flight 2P 390)

Depart GenSan - 1:50 AM

Arrive GenSan - 3:00 PM

Currently, only Cebu Pacific services the GenSan-Cebu-GenSan route and with AirPhil Express in the picture, expect the plane rates to go down.

The flights to and from Iloilo City however is exclusively AirPhil Express‘ as of the moment. Knowing how Cebu Pacific operates, they would not want any competitor to dominate this route for sure. We can expect them to follow suit right away.

Right now, AirPhil Express which will be using their brand new Airbus 320 is offering a marked-down one way fare of P106o.00 for their new flights to Cebu and Iloilo from General Santos City and vice versa.

So if I were you, I would immediately stop what I am doing and go log on to their website at www.airphilexpress.com and book my future flights. Am sure, many Ilonggos and Cebuanos here and in the Visayas would be wanting to do just the same. Go na!

And yes, one more thing! Boracay is not that far anymore!!!! Yey!

Let me play Jojo Acuin or Madame Auring just this once by sharing with you my Top 7 Predictions for 2012 that could happen here in General Santos City and Soccsksargen within the next 12 months.

Here they are:

1. The establishment of a LONE CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT for General Santos City. – This is long overdue considering that the total population of GenSan has already reached more than half a million already. But unless the National Government approves for publication the 2010 National Census figures, which will peg latest census figures at 600,000 and which will be a major basis for the re-alignment of the congressional districts of South Cotabato, this will have to wait. Hopefully, by the 4th quarter of 2012, our representative, Congressman Jun Acharon will be focusing on just the city alone.

2. The construction of Gokongwei’s GoHotel beside their Robinsons’ Place GenSan lot in Barangay Lagao. – With more and more conventions and large conferences being conducted in GenSan, the hotel boom will reach fever pitch this year with the entry of national players in the hotel industry, including GoHotel which will open its Tacloban branch this year. That only means that GenSan will be next.

3. The ground-breaking of the Mindanao Campus of University of Santo Tomas in Barangay Ligaya, General Santos City. Touted to be a full university and not just a college annexed under the UST Main Campus in Manila, UST General Santos will offer the same courses. This will give Mindanaoans full access to quality education under the tutelage of the Dominicans.

4. The expansion of the General Santos City Hospital and the improvement of its operations. – Health being at the forefront of the administration of Mayor Darlene Antonino Custodio, expect this one to materialize with the entry of Private-Public-Partnerships (PPP) in the operations of key departments in the City Hospital. Thus within the year, we shall witness the opening of the Dialysis Center that will drastically lower the costs of a dialysis procedure, PPP-initiated pharmacy and laboratory which will offer lower medicines and services, respectively; and additional beds with the opening up of the 2nd floor of the hostpital’s new building.

5. The commencement of the construction of the city’s Sanitary Landfill in Barangay Sinawal which hopefully can begin its operation by the end of the year or early 2013. This will further boost the city’s Garbage Disposal and Segregation Program which it is trying to strengthen among the generals. Cleaner city = healthier environment = mas Magandang GenSan!

6. The entry of more major players in GenSan, notably Ayala Land. - With Robinsons and SM here, can Ayala be far behind? This could either be by the Kastilaloy-owned company’s joining the now very competitive mall industry or through the still-very-open and lucrative mass housing business in the Home of Champions. Either way, we have received reports that Ayala has sent feelers to brokers to look for large tracts of lands in Barangay Lagao.

7. The privatization of the General Santos City Central Public Market. – As mentioned earlier, since the local government is keen on Private-Public-Partnerships, then the idea of pushing for the privatization of the GenSan Central Public Market should be put in the forefront. Reports have reached us that the SM group is keeping an eye on this possibility. If that happens in 2012, then we will soon have our very first air-conditioned MALLENGKE! Cool!

So that’s it – our 2012 Top 7 Predictions for GenSan! Do you agree with most or some of them?

What does your own BOLANG KRISTAL say?

With Christmas Day over and the countdown to 2012 just beginning, here’s a piece of good news from KCC Malls!

This means they aside from their Christmas Deals (click here), both malls are selling off their old inventory at discounted prices by as much as 70% off the original! Isn’t that great?

So if you still have spare money left from your Christmas shopping, why not spend the remainder at KCC Mall of GenSan or Koronadal’s Clearance Sale? There’s something right there for everyone, promise.

Now and give yourself a nice New Year’s gift! You owe it to yourself!

The people of General Santos City and the rest of Soccsksargen who are in the midst of celebrating Christmas Day today are in for a special treat as all the cinemas in the city are showing the movie entries of the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival!

This simultaneous showing of the MMFF entries nationwide started years back when cineplexes in the major malls in the countryside started popping out.

For Robinsons Movieworld GenSan, here is their Christmas Weekend and beyond movie line-up:

Cinema 1 – Ang Panday 2

Cinema 2 – Enteng ng Ina Mo

Cinema 3 – Segunda Mano

Cinema 4 – Shake, Rattle & Roll 13

Ticket price at Robinsons Movieworld GenSan is P100 for the MMFF 2011 entries.

For KCC Cinemas, here is their Christmas offering:

Cinema 1 – Mission Impossible 4 2D

Cinema 2 – Househusband

Cinema 3 – Panday 2

Cinema 4 – Segunda Mano

Cinema 5 – Shake, Rattle & Roll 13

Cinema 6 – Enteng ng Ina Mo

Ticket price at KCC Cinemas is P95.00 (inclusive of P5 for MMFF Fund) for Cinemas 2 to 6.

Personally, I would like to watch Shake, Rattle & Roll 13 first because I have never missed a single installment ever. And besides, all its three episodes are helmed by new directors and that’s something worth anticipating.

So what are you staring there at? Enjoy your Christmas break and watch a Pinoy movie with your families and loved ones. Now na!

In a magnanimous move, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of General Santos City unanimously approved this morning the resolution of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for the appropriation of Five Hundred Thousand pesos (P500,000.00) each for the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan devastated by Typhoon Sendong last weekend.

The CDRRMC is chaired by Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio.

She has also instructed the Office of the City Social Service and Development to accept donations for the survivors at their building beside the Oval Plaza. The CSWDO will be open 24/7 until December 31, 2011 for this purpose.

The first batch of donations will be transported by at least four trucks to Northern Mindanao early tomorrow morning, December 22, 2011.

The second batch will depart GenSan on December 26, 2011.

On a related note, Mayor Darlene Custodio has also issued a memo canceling the Christmas Party of the City Hall employees (numbering 3,500++) in deference to the victims of this recent calamity. Instead, a portion of the budget for the party will be used to purchase more relief goods for CDO and Iligan.

If you are truly a general, please help our sister cities by donating in kind or in cash and make them still feel the spirit of Christmas in their hearts.

Let us also show to the world that in our own small way, GenSan cares!

This is one for the record books which should not be missed!

Tomorrow night, November 16, 2011, in celebration of the 8th People’s Congress which gathers all the members of the FRAME Program of the local government of General Santos City to celebrate and fellowship, something magical will happen!

For the first time ever in the country, 10,000 SKY LANTERNS will be released by the members themselves in an event that showcases the strength and impact of the program in many facets at the General Santos City Oval Plaza.

Be there to witness this historic event!

"GENSAN CITY MAYOR DARLENE CUSTODIO AND HER HUSBAND BENJIE WAIT FOR THEIR SKY LANTERN TO FLOAT DURING THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE TUNA FESTIVAL 2010. MULTIPLY THIS 10,000 TIMES AND YOU GET THE PICTURE OF WHAT HAPPENS AT THE 8TH PEOPLE'S CONGRESS."

The FRAME Program:

The “Family Resource Allocation Management and Enhancement” (FRAME) Program is basically a community and value-based capability building program aimed at empowering communities and constituents to socio-economic engagements and self-help livelihood opportunities. It is a special program of the Local Government of General Santos as an anti-poverty strategy.

Generally, FRAME Program is a mass-based savings system where people and community own a project which operates on trust, love, cooperation and mutual help. Likewise, it promotes family values, spirituality, moral recovery and strengthening positive virtues rather than promoting the dole-out and poverty mentality of Filipinos.

FRAME Program has been existing for more than eight years since its inception in year 2003 during the time of then mayor and now Congressman Jun Acharon. It evolved from a pilot savings program at the Field Operations Division of the City Social Welfare and Development Office to a mass-based savings system now existing in 26 barangays that mobilized more than forty thousand members to date under the leadership of Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio.

“8th People’s Congress Theme: RE-IMAGINE. RE-INVENT. RESPOND. | God-given Power Unframed.”:

The chosen theme is essentially a statement of conviction commanding the human being to re-imagine possibilities, re-invent approaches and strategies, and respond to the changing time’s challenges.

In today’s unpredictable times and fast-paced evolution, all that the individual can do is prepare for a volatile future. Man is after all born and equipped with innovativeness, ingenuity, virtues and values basic in him. To respond to the demands of contemporary times, man has to harness his basic faculties. Individuals, communities, and families have to adapt to economic, cultural, political, environmental, and sociological landscapes that change its face by the tick of the clock.

There is so much that man can do if he unleashes the human potential he is endowed with. There are no boundaries to what the human spirit can achieve. There is no framing of his capabilities which are God-given.

The theme basically sends a message that empowering one’s self starts from rediscovering his basic human strengths – the goodness and spirit that lies within every soul. These and all, are what this year’s congress aims for the FRAME members to imbibe.

Through time, FRAME is already beyond a social program. It has become a dynamic platform where positive transformation unfolds.

VISUAL THEME AND LOGO:

The visual rendering of a human figure carrying a lighted torch is a declaration of man’s energy to live with meaning, a celebration of the gift of life. Unafraid by darkness of turbulent times, he carries a burning passion to illumine and influence the world.

The colors Red, Orange and Yellow are the colors of a flame. These colors translate the vibrancy of the event, hence used in tshirts, promo materials, and other visual elements.

The flood of flame colors is in itself a portrayal of illumination, an intense visual statement that FRAME as a program is a medium that lights and illuminates. It thus, should radiate and effect positive influences.

Bariles and the rest of the Soccsksargen Bloggers had the good luck to check out a Corporate Social Responsibility project of top multinational food producer and Soccsksargen’s #1 employer, Dolefil, up close and personal one weekend.

This is their Chairs-for-Trees Program which was started in 2003.

At that time, because of higher school enrollment and increased material fees, about 20-50 percent of students were without classroom desks and chairs.

To help solve this glaring problem, Dolefil which just recently launched its 5-year Greening Program (click here), joined the Chairs-for-Trees (CFT) Program and partnered with Mahintana Foundation and Mt. Matutum Federation of Marginal Farmers Association. They did so by donating their used wooden pallets to the program and recycling them into the much-needed desks-chairs.

So, for over eight years now, Dolefil and the program have worked to increase the numbers of desk-and-chair sets, as well as provide both active and responsive assistance to Southern Mindanao communities in the Soccsksargen region.

"HERE ARE SOME OF THE USED AND OLD WOODEN PALLETS OF DOLEFIL AT THE MAHINTANA FOUNDATION COMPOUND IN CANNERY, POLOMOLOK"

Initially, instead of disposing them, these pallets are sent over by Dolefil to the nearby Unified Engineering and Manpower Services Multi-Purpose Cooperative (UEMSMC) compound at the Cannery Road in Polomolok, South Cotabato where they are disassembled. Then a group of carpenters gather and clean the usable planks and start converting them into chairs.

A CARPENTER DRILLS HOLES INTO THESE RECYCLED PARTS OF THE USED WOODEN PALLETS OF DOLEFIL.

Under the watchful eye of a quality control staff, the skillful hands of UEMSMC’s carpenters eventually produce sturdy and good quality kiddie chairs.

"A NEWLY-FINISHED KIDDIE CHAIR READY FOR PAINTING"

These finished chairs are then delivered to another site within the Cannery area where they are spray painted in Dolefil’s corporate colors.

"THE PAINTED CHAIRS OF DOLEFIL'S CHAIRS FOR TREES PROGRAM READY FOR DISTRIBUTION TO RECIPIENT SCHOOLS IN THE REGION"

Each chair is estimated to cost P263.75, according to Gwynee Ebol, Dolefil’s Communication Superintendent. For every chair that is donated to a recipient school, the school plants 26 trees or one tree for every P10.00 worth of assistance received.

"HAPPY & COMFY PUPILS OF UPPER KLINAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THE CHAIRS FROM DOLEFIL:

Another requirement is that these planted trees must have an 80% survival rate or else their school is taken out of the program and are no longer qualified to receive more chairs in the future.

"SCHOOL CHILDREN PLANTING A TREE TO RECIPROCATE EVERY P10 WORTH OF ASSISTANCE FROM DOLEFIL"

Dolefil supplies the seedlings and tree saplings for the schools which they procure from another local cooperative called the Mt. Matutum Federation of Marginal Farmers Association. Everyday, their women members are responsible for propagating the seedlings so they are ready for use in plant nurseries and greenhouses throughout the community.

"A WOMAN FARMER WATERS THE TREE SAPLINGS FOR DOLEFIL'S CHAIRS FOR TREES PROGRAM"

At least 700,000 seedlings of various forest and fruit trees have been planted and grown by beneficiaries in the South Central Mindanao area under the Chairs-for-Trees program. The thousands of donations and seedlings propagated for the reforestation component of the project have likewise been a steady source of livelihood for the cooperatives’ members, thus making their groups evolve into viable business partners for their respective communities.

In general, Dolefil, through all these, enabled Chairs-for-Trees to address important concerns, such as education, environment (recycling and reforestation), livelihood generation and organizational development which definitely is an awesome endeavor of the company’s laudable Corporate Social Responsibility Program.

Unheralded Kidapawan native Gilbert Maluyo stamped class by beating a Kenyan runner in the men’s division while Rhodah Chepkirui stood firm all-throughout to rule the distaff side last Sunday in the penultimate leg of the 35th National MILO Marathon in General Santos City.

The 30-year-old machine operator Maluyo timed 1:14:54 to relegate David Kipoech Kipsang of Kenya to third place, while Chepkirui also of Kenya registered 1:27:40 to lead a total of 14 age group qualifiers into the Grand Finals on Dec. 11 at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Early bet Kipsang further compounded his woes when Elmer Bartolo of Holy Trinity College gave his all in the final kilometers to settle for second with a clocking of 1:14:56—a mere two seconds after Maluyo. Kipsang finished third in 1:15:16 followed by a City Hall employee, Royle Mariano in 1:24:23 and Family Country Hotel’s Jelbirt Gomera who settled at fifth in 1:27:34.

“I was trailing behind the Kenyan runner (Kipsang) until 9 kms into the race when I overtook him. I led at the turning point and went head to head this time with Elmer Bartolo. It was a very tight race until the very end,” said Maluyo.

Maluyo almost could not believe his victory as he was initially intimidated by the presence of a Kenyan runner and had little training. Maluyo shares, “It was a challenge for me to balance work and training and I had to wake up at 4:30 am to do a long run before I headed to work. Add to that, I was nervous because I have been hearing about Kenyans ruling races in Mindanao and Visayas,” Maluyo added.

Jerome Dela Rosa completed the top 10 cast with 1:27:39 for sixth, Rodolfo Villanueva at seventh in 1:30:38, followed by Paul Andrew Paradela (1:30:42), Francisco Veroy (1:31:29) and Diosdado Munar Sr. (1:31:52).

It was a different story on the women’s side as 24-year-old Kenyan runner Chepkirui led from start to finish outpacing last year’s National MILO Marathon Batangas leg titlist Maricel Maquilan who fell to second in 1:32:06.

“I found the race easy, I was alone from start to finish. Thankfully there were no strong local competitors and I was able to reach my goal to earn a slot in the finals,” said Chepkirui, who has been in the country for a month.

Completing the top five were April Rose Diaz who settled at third in 1:34:42, followed by Maria Estela Diaz (1:49:40) and Joan Natividad (2:08:04).

But the biggest casualty in the 21-k race was former three-time National MILO Marathon champion Cresenciano Sabal, who was unable to finish the race because of a foot injury. He is said to participate in the final Davao leg on Sunday for a final swing to clutch a spot at the finals.

The General Santos leg likewise produced a total of 500 pairs of shoes for selected students of General Santos City High School, Dadiangas South Elementary School, HN Cahilsot Central Elementary School, Ireneo Santiago High School and Balunto Elementary School as part of the National MILO Marathon’s ‘Help Give Shoes’ Advocacy.

More than 400 runners from the previous 17-leg elimination races all over the country have already earned slots at the National finals, which offers P300,000 cash prize to the winners in both the elite men and women’s 42.195-km class.

After the 16th leg, the nationwide search for the best runner in the country, will head for its final stop on Sunday in Davao City. On the run-up to the Manila Finals, the National MILO Marathon also announces it is already open for registration for 3k, 5k, 10k and 21k race categories through Manila Race organizer RunRio. Interested participants can log on to www.milo.com.ph for online registration.

P.S.

Meanwhile, here is a photo of Bariles and three of his friends who finished the 5K race of the 35th MILO National Marathon last Sunday along with him. Kaya niyo yan?

From out of the blue, a general sprung a surprise upon the unsuspecting public last night, October 29, when he was introduced in the initial telecast of the most popular and longest-running reality show in the Philippines, now updated and known as Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited.

Here’s more of Paco, after the jump…

Favorite Singer: Sting, Parokya ni Edgar, Eraserheads, Wolfgang, Jon Mayer, Urbandub

OTHER INFORMATION from ABS-CBN’s PR:

“I want to find myself.”

‘Yan ang priority ni Paco sa pagpasok ng bahay ni Kuya. Napansin niya kasi na lahat ng pumasok sa PBB, may sinasabing pagbabago sa sarili at sa buhay. A man of many interests, marami siyang sinubukan at inaral na mga bagay. Kapag naaliw siya sa isang bagay, gaya nalang ng pagluluto at pagsasayaw, maghahanap siya ng video sa YouTube at aaralin ito. “I tried to learn the dougie once. It was fun! I also tried DJ-ing, but I never had the equipment for it so I just know it in theory.”

I can make people laugh. I think I’d get along well with smart people, someone who I can learn from. Also those with a background in the arts. If they’re pretty, I’d love to get along with them!”

Of course, it is still too early to tell if Paco Evangelista, whose late father, Joel was a policeman, has got what it takes to figure prominently in this new season of Pinoy Big Brother. A lot of weight is on his shoulders as his townmates from GenSan will be hoping that just like Gerald and Melai before him, he could prove to everyone that indeed, he is worthy of their support, being from the Home of Champions!

Our only advise is for him to enjoy the ride, just be himself and give it all he’s got. In the end though, he must not forget the fact that Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited is still a competition after all.

Don’t miss the exciting developments in “Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited” with Toni Gonzaga and Bianca Gonzales weeknights after “Nasaan Ka, Elisa?” and Robi Domingo in “PBB Unlimited Updates” during “Maria La Del Barrio” and “100 Days to Heaven” on ABS-CBN.

A few days from now, exactly on October 20, 2011, AirPhil Express will finally be making its inaugural flight to General Santos City from Manila! We blogged about it as early as March this year after they announced it, and at that time, we were as excited as you are. More competition means much lower fares!!! Read post here.

A few months afterwards, AirPhil Express fired its warning shots and announced a Seat Sale for their upcoming Manila-GenSan-Manila flight! Early bookers were offered a one-way flight fare of only P888. Read about that here.

Of course, their major competitor, Cebu Pacific has since been retaliating left and right without let-up and we could only advise the happy riding public to do a flight comparison to check the airlines which could give them the best value for their money.

Right now, AirPhil Express boasts of a new fleet of Airbuses which will cater to the passengers to and from General Santos City, similar to the one at the photo below, featuring an AirBus A320.

"A BRAND NEW AIRBUS A320 WHICH WILL BE USED BY AIRPHIL EXPRESS FOR THEIR MANILA-GENSAN-MANILA ROUTE. PHOTO BY BOOM BONCAN."

Aside from that, they have a 15-kilo FREE Baggage Allowance and along with it, a 7-kilo FREE Handcarried Baggage Allowance, a feature not available on Cebu Pacific.

Now if they could only include Payment Centers and Debit Cards for their online bookings and not just Credit Cards (just like Cebu Pacific), then everybody will truly be happy!

Read: Bariles inside Cebu Pacific’s SMILE Magazine

AirPhil Express has already invited a few select guests on October 20, to witness their “General Santos-Manila Flight Launching Service Airbus 320″, as it says on their invitation card.

Since the plane leaves Manila at 5:15am on that day, the invitees have been requested to be at the General Santos International Airport as early as 6:00AM.

Hope to be there to be there too! This is something not to be missed!

DXWK, more popularly known as K101 Love Radio, and Radio Mo Nationwide (RMN) both topped the latest annual Nielsen Media Survey conducted in General Santos City last July 2011 for FM and AM radio stations!

Nielsen released the survey results earlier this week to the different radio stations and GenSan News Online Mag was able to wrangle a copy.

First, in describing the FM Radio Survey results, Love Radio leads the competition by a mile! Check out the table below.

Love Radio GenSan has been consistent in being the #1 FM station since 2000 in General Santos City except for 2004 when it lost the spot to ABS-CBN’s MOR. Part of the reason could be their regular stagings of big rock concert parties in GenSan. Click here and here to read about it.

For 2011, Love Radio got a rating of 1.21 and an audience share of 26.5%. In distant second is DXCK 91.9 or iFM of Radio Mindanao Network which received a rating of 0.87 with an audience share of 19.2%. This is however noteworthy since iFM is just a new FM station which started broadcasting not more than five years ago.

Rounding up the Top Three is University of Mindanao Broadcasting Network‘s DXRT 99.1 or Wild FM, with a rating of 0.78 and an audience share of 17.1%.

Surprisingly, inspite the fact that their deejays can be seen regularly on Kapamilya’s local TV program, Magandang Umaga Soccsksargen, ABS-CBN’s DYEC 92.7′s MOR Radio, can only manage fourth position in the Nielsen Media Survey. It is followed by Brigada Radio (#5), Home Radio (#6), Campus Radio (#7), EZ Rock (#8) and lastly, by Killer Bee (#9).

On the other hand, for their 3rd time, Radio Mo Nationwide- DXMD 927, ranked #1 in the AM Station Ranking results from the same survey conducted by Nielsen. Check out the table below.

With a rating of 0.73 which translates to an audience share of 47.8%, Radio Mo Nationwide lorded it over the former topnotcher in 2007-2009, Bombo Radyo which mustered only a rating of 0.64 and an audience share of 41.9%. RMN has already topped the survey in 2007 and last year, 2010.

Bombo was followed by DZMM and DXRH, Manila-based stations whose broadcasts reach GenSan, DXCP, DXRE and DXGS, three homegrown AM stations complete the rankings.

In a nutshell, based on the combined results, it is K101 Love Radio which is really the #1 radio station in General Santos City, for both on the FM & AM categories. Congratulations to Manager Dodie “Dr. Love” Ladrera and his trusted man, Joel “Kabayan Joe” Malabon for this mean feat!

The momentous occasion happened during the morning of the 34th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law by former President Ferdinand Marcos on September 21, 2011. It was attended by employees of the City Hall led by Assistant City Administrator Glennville Gonzalez who also emceed the short program at the Robinsons Car Lot, City Engineer’s Office’s Rizza Paces & Mylene Gecosala (who provided the photos here), LTO City Chief Ismael Almanza, management personnel of Robinsons led by Roy Unso, and members of the media, among others.

The whole project costs the city P21.2 million and is the second phase of the Traffic Signalization System Project started during the administration of then Mayor Acharon. The first phase was inaugurated on August 7, 2009. Read about it by clicking here.

In the pipeline are traffic lights at the crossroads of National Highway-NDDU and Aparente Street and at the Bulaong Road-National Highway crossing. What do you think? Where should the next traffic lights be?

The cold early morning drizzle on September 18, 2011 could not dampen the high spirits of 200 Dolefil employees and guests as they gathered for what is to be a momentous Ceremonial Tree Planting Activity. Held at a gully in Purok Dignadice, Poblacion, Polomolok, South Cotabato, the activity strengthened the record of the multinational food company’s record (which just won an award from the Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines) as being an industry leader in both its environmental practices or in its labor relations.

The tree planting event is LEAD.PH’s (Labor Employees Association of Dolefil.Polomolok Hourlies) expression of its commitment and support to the company’s CSSR (Corporate Sustainability and Social Responsibility) initiatives as reflected in the Green Clause of the said union’s CBA. LEAD.PH is the official bargaining agent of Polomolok-based hourly-paid employees of Dolefil.

Mel Hernandez, Dolefil HR Division Director, emphasized the activity’s importance on his message, “Dolefil pioneered the inclusion of a Green Clause in its CBA, a program that actively supports environmental protection and welfare.” Furthermore, Atty.
In its launching alone, 1,100 bamboo seedlings were planted by union members and the community. “What makes this tree planting program distinct is that by choosing bamboo as its planting material, it will be able to provide additional means of livelihood to the members of the community,” Mahintana Foundation, Inc.’s Executive Director Martiniano “Dodoy” Magdolot remarked during his tree planting demo. Members of the community will benefit from the purchase of the seedlings and from the use of mature bamboos as raw materials for bahay kubo and furniture.

100 LEAD.PH MEMBERS PLANT TEN BAMBOO SEEDLINGS EACH, A REALIZATION OF THE GREEN CLAUSE OF THE UNION'S CBA".

Unlike other one-time activities, this project will continue every other Sunday. Each of the 100 LEAD.PH members per batch is to plant and grow ten seedlings. LEAD.PH’s Gully Tree Planting will run for the entire lifetime of the CBA (5 years), involving almost 4,000 union members, and will result to at least 200,000 planted bamboos, providing stable waterways and livelihood to the community. “I am proud that through the Green Clause provision of the CBA between Dolefil and LEAD.PH, we have implemented and launched this Ceremonial Tree Planting. Kini ang pinakauna nga CBA Green Clause sa tibuok Pilipinas! CBA na makakalikasan!” stated Francis Gales, LEAD.PH President.

Likewise, the activity is a manifestation of Dolefil and LEAD.PH’s commitment to productive partnership, proving that with a common vision and goal, a company leads by example and through accomplishments. Dolefil indeed is making things happen.

Bariles was also able to climb aboard a flower-bedecked float that took Miss Shamcey on a queen’s motorcade from the airport and through the major thoroughfares of her hometown.

The Philippine National Police Office of General Santos City is at it again!

As part of its continuing TAKBO GENSAN series under its energetic and hunky chief, PNP City Director PSSupt. Cedrick Train, the country’s Best City Police Office is again inviting everyone to another marathon or fun run. This time, it will be be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 in support of the 26th International Coastal Clean-Up Day!

They have dubbed it “3K for Clean Coasts“.

For a measly sum of P25 for kids and P50 for adults, interested runners may register at the PNP Office at the Camp Fermin Lira Headquarters on or before Saturday.

Participants are then advised to be at the Assembly Place at the PNP Office Grounds at the same camp before 5:00 AM. The marathon will start at exactly 5:00am.

The 3-kilometer route will end at the Barangay Bula Coral Reef, which suggests a place at the coastal area there.

Bariles hopes to join this one although he can only brisk walk. What’s important is that finally, he will be joining his first ever 3K Marathon after a looooooong time.

“We just have to coordinate with her Bb.
The City Administrator is forming a Task Force to oversee preparations including logistics and manpower to ensure that Shamcey’s victorious homecoming although still simple, will be one fit for a “returning queen“.

The City Council, for its part, filed a resolution, authored by Councilor Beth Bagonoc ‘congratulating Ms. Shamcey Supsup for her victory and for bringing the name of General Santos City with her“.

Meanwhile, here are some photos taken during yesterday’s airing of the pageant on a wide screen at the covered court of Barangay Katangawan, Shamcey’s home barangay in GenSan. The photos are of GenSan City Mayor Darlene Antonino Custodio and Shamcey’s father, Timoteo Supsup while watching the proceedings with bated breath. Thanks to CPIO’s Paul Bernaldez for these shots.
