The makers of the Century brand (Century Tuna, Century Bangus, etc), the Century Pacific Food Inc., announced recently that they are building a tin can factory near their fish processing plant, Century Canning in Tambler, General Santos City and are investing P457.6-milion in it.

CENTURY CANNING
CENTURY WILL BE MANUFACTURING CANS LIKE THESE FOR THEIR CANNED TUNA AND MEAT PRODUCTS AND FOR OTHER CANNING COMPANIES.

According to their president, Mr. Christopher Po, they are entering into this business to reduce their packaging costs since they are also aiming to acquire more companies and explore new ventures in the near future.

For instance, he mentioned that they too are joining the beverage industry through an American brand of a coconut water drink which they will start selling in the Philippines.

Just recently, Century Pacific Food Inc. bought the Swift brand from RFM Corporation.

Anyway, this news will definitely be a cause for rejoicing by the people of General Santos as it means more employment and more money flowing in the Tuna Capital once this tin can factory is finished within the 3rd quarter of 2014.

Personally, this is what GenSan really needs – more labor-intensive companies to drive consumer spending and help spur economic activity in all the giant malls that have sprouted in the city.
