General Santos City’s most famous annual event, the Tuna Festival is almost upon us now and we are glad that the official Tuna Festival 2015 Schedule of Actitivies has been divulged to the public.

The celebration this year commemorates the citys’ 47th Charter Anniversary and is the 17th Tuna Festival since it started in 1998, also to pay homage to the city’s prime commodity.

The PFDA (Philippine Fishport Development Authority) is again this year’s Event Organzer and based on their “Tentative Calendar of Activities”, has made some changes in the scheduling of some major events.

Although the Grand Opening Ceremony will still be on September 1, 2015, the Culmination Day has been moved to September 6 (Sunday), instead of the usual September 5, the actual Charter Day Anniversary.

We have also received reports that the LGU has requested Malacanang to proclaim the Opening Day, September 1, Tuesday as a Holiday and not September 5.  This creates a 4-day long weekend for the generals starting from August 29 (Saturday), August 30 (Sunday), August 31 (Monday, National Hero’s Day), giving them free time to enjoy the pre-festival activities and features like the Grand Carnival, Party Zones, Coke Pasaya, Food Court and Flea Market, among others.

Incidentally, two major events, the much-awaited Tuna Float Parade will occur on September 1 while the Streetdancing Competition, will unfold on September 6.

On the other hand, the National Tuna Congress, with an expected turnout of 500-600 delegates from all over the worldwill occur on September 3 and 4, 2015 and right smack in the midst of the festivities.

All these are made even more special by Gensan’s being proclaimed the Guinness World Record holder for the LARGEST FISH DISPLAY in the world, a feat it accomplished during the 2014 Tuna Festival.
